The Ohio Technology Consortium seeks a talented student worker to join our team as a Virtual Reality Student Assistant. In this role, you will help create engaging and informative VR environments using the Spatial platform, blending creativity with technical skill. These environments will be a significant part of the consortium’s outreach activities with the public at events like the Ohio State Fair.

Responsibilities

The Virtual Reality Student Assistant will collaborate closely with a project team made up of representatives from the Ohio Technology Consortium, the Ohio Supercomputer Center and the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The person in this role will consolidate the team’s input and construct dynamic VR spaces that engage youth and families while educating about STEM and higher education in Ohio. Key responsibilities include:

  • Environment Creation: Leverage your familiarity with creating virtual objects and environments to build 3D spaces within the Spatial platform (spatial.io).
  • Technical Skill: Take an active role in the VR environment development process. Work closely with our team to ensure seamless integration of design elements, interactivity and user experience.
  • Liaison with Experts: Serve as our bridge to external expert technical consultants from a peer institution. Collaborate with them to fine-tune technical aspects, troubleshoot challenges, and optimize the VR environment for maximum impact.
  • Documentation: Prepare clear instructions and documentation for event staff and for users interacting with the VR environment.
  • Innovation: Stay up-to-date with VR trends, tools, and techniques to enhance our offerings.

Education/Experience Required

Experience, including classroom experience, creating digital 3D environments and objects. Excellent organization and time management and customer service skills. Ability to work remotely and independently, and in a traditional office environment.

Education/Experience Desired

Experience in the Spatial 3D platform. Experience with Sketchfab. Experience designing games or digital educational activities in 3D game platforms.

Additional Information

  • This position requires 10-15 hours per week during the academic terms, up to 35 hours per week in the summer leading up to and during the Ohio State Fair which runs July 24 through August 4, 2024.
  • This position may be eligible for remote work as circumstances allow. In-person work will be required occasionally during preparation and staffing of the Fair.

The Hiring Rate for this position is $14 hourly.
