Department of Media Study

( DMS ), University at Buffalo, The State University of New York invites applications for an

associate or full professor

(tenure-track) with a focus on immersive media (XR/VR/AR/MR).

We seek a forward-looking, creative researcher or scholar-artist with an international reputation, a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, and an extensive record of exhibition, scholarly publication, or sponsored research, including creative work, digital scholarship, and critical making. Applicants addressing social and environmental justice concerns and/or working among marginalized communities or Indigenous peoples are especially encouraged to apply.

Tenured faculty in

DMS

have an academic-year commitment with a 2-2 teaching load (both graduate and undergraduate courses). Faculty also mentor graduate and undergraduate students and are expected to have an active research or creative program and contribute to service at the department, university, and discipline levels.

The Department of Media Study is one of the country’s leading programs in experimental and independent media and media scholarship.

DMS

is led by an award- winning, internationally-active faculty who engage an interdisciplinary range of media and methods including screen culture, immersive media, documentary, narrative and experimental film, video and sound, gaming, interactive fiction, physical computing, software studies, and media archeology.

The department offers three BA degrees in media production, critical media studies, and film studies, as well as a certificate in game studies. In addition, we have four graduate degrees: an interdisciplinary

MAH

in Film and Media Study, an MS in Media Arts and Sciences, an

MFA

in Media Production, and a PhD in Media Study.
