Virtual Reality Developer
The Department of Urology is seeking a casual/as needed,
Virtual Reality Developer.
Job Summary
Participate in the development of solutions using programming / analytical expertise for day-to-day problems to include maintenance, modification or development of applications/solutions.
We are currently looking for a passionate, hardworking teammate to develop a virtual reality (VR) application for training and practicing robotic surgical skills using Meta-based VR systems. Our goal is to develop a VR application for training and practicing robotic surgical skills based on kinematic data. Commitment to the development of a sophisticated and efficacious VR application for this goal is essential to successful employment.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Translate design ideas, concepts, and requirements into a functional and effective training application.
- Design, develop, and maintain an efficient, reusable, and reliable VR application, based on the Unity game engine.
- Ensure the VR application meets the goal of training and practicing robotic surgical skills based on kinematic data.
- Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to address and mitigate them throughout the development process.
- These are general duties associated with this position – edit as needed for this specific role:
- Apply analysis techniques and procedures to gather and then translate business requirements into functional/technical specifications and designs. Maintain databases and system code. Installation and modification of package programs. Use functional specifications and designs to produce all or part of the deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a technically related Degree.
- One-year related experience.
- Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Has experience working with research teams.
- Has experience or knowledge of kinematic data.
- At least one or more years of experience developing VR applications using the Unity game engine.
- Experience using the Oculus Integration plugin to develop VR applications.
- Fluent in C#, Java, JavaScript, and Python languages.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
