About The Role
Our early-stage team is seeking an AR/VR Product Designer to design and develop our first publicly available AR/VR headset. The AR/VR Product Designer will collaborate closely with other passionate engineers who have successfully shipped AR/VR hardware from companies like Meta, Sony, and Apple. With our team, you will explore, prototype, and build experiences that define the future of how people interact with wearable technology.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and iterate rapid models of proposed design solutions for the purposes of communication and evaluation across cross-functional teams
- Work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception to shipping product
- Establish top-level design architectures and implementation methodologies for the team
- Clearly document and communicate design decisions with internal stakeholders
- Work with cross-functional team in assessing project/risk readiness for PD owned deliverables
- Ability to create scalable solutions while solving tactical problems
- Collaborate and manage work with suppliers and vendors, including Asia based supply chains
- Ability to travel, as required, up to 20% (domestic and international)
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in mechanical manufacturing, specifically in technical and process development at NPI, technical problem solving, fixture manufacturing or operation skills
- 1+ years of experience in AR/VR
- Experience working on metal and plastic manufacturing processes, including molding, stamping, die casting, CNC machining, welding, glue dispensing, pad/silkscreen, painting, surface finishing, and assembly
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancing, and 3D/2D CAD
- Experience in conducting DOEs to drive process and data collection
- Experience with statistical process control tools to analyze data from DOE and part qualification and to provide solutions and recommendations to the engineering team
- Experience working with Asia supply chain vendors (especially in Mainland China)
- Experience in the full lifecycle of design and development -- including ideation, prototyping, development, backward compatibility, failovers, validation, and user research
- Experience designing handheld and wearable electronics for high-volume manufacturing
- Experience with Siemens NX/Teamcenter
- Mandarin is a plus
