Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Instructional Designer/eLearning Author will work on multiple aspects of a large, multi-year Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded project. The incumbent will be responsible for the design and development of a competency-based curriculum and e-learning modules using novel interactive and immersive tools such as extended reality (XR, AR, and VR), 360 video, as well as 2D video and desktop game-style learning. The instructional designer will also devise modes of assessment and evaluation, in collaboration with the project team, to measure the effectiveness of learning modules/activities. The incumbent will have a professional track record of successfully managing projects that include engaging a variety of subject matter experts, utilizing appropriate pedagogy for adult learners and practicing clinicians, authoring products in a SCORM compliant tool, and comfort interacting with and developing products for a variety of learning management systems (LMS).

Curriculum Development

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Consult with subject matter experts (SMEs) and program leadership to understand training requirements; and analyze existing content and translate information to an effective e-learning module relevant for audience and language level.

Design and create materials using multimedia, online platforms, and other vehicles (including low code, no code virtual reality design) determined to best meet the audience needs of diverse learning styles, educational backgrounds, and experience levels.

Assessment Design

In alignment with competency based educational principles, design appropriate assessments for adult learners.

Evaluation

Collaborates with the Program Manager, Principal and co-Investigators, and Evaluation SME to design and execute on a strategy and set of tools to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of XR staff training for Infection Prevention and Control in diverse healthcare settings

Project Management

Assists in coordination project activities related to curriculum development and module design.

Contributes to project plans and timelines, identifies inconsistencies among plans, proposes corrective measures, and identifies systems and operational problems and proposes solutions.

Logistics

Collaborates with project leadership to ensure that necessary supplies and technology are available to support educational product deliveries.

Outside Liaison

Facilitate the development of an immersive learning environment for clinicians and other healthcare workers. This will include collaborating with and, in conjunction with the Program Manager, directing external vendors in the development of products.

Skills And Competencies

Strong knowledge and application of adult learning principles and methodologies.

Experience building branching scenarios

Significant experience in instructional design, including technical competency in a variety of programs and platforms

Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, Articulate 360, Captivate Snagit, and the interface of various SCORM-compliant tools

Knowledge of Lectora, Camtasia, and HTML and CSS.

Exceptional writing skills

Effective oral, interpersonal and presentation skills

Ability to effectively reconcile and synthesize complex and disparate opinions in a group of SMEs

Demonstrated problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills

Ability to work independently and lead and participate in interprofessional teams

Ability to manage to a timeline

Working Conditions

The project team works in a hybrid model, at home and on the MGH main campus.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

Experience

  • Three + years instructional design experience
  • Experience in healthcare and professional staff (clinician/physician) education, preferred
  • Experience developing training for Extended Reality (VR/MR/AR) preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with SCORM-compliant programs, including those listed above
