We are looking for a skilled and motivated Battery Research Scientist to join our team. We are specifically seeking a candidate to define and drive a lithium-ion battery research technology roadmap and lead a team of researchers to develop advanced batteries for next-generation XR devices, from concept to advanced prototypes.
Battery Research Scientist Responsibilities:
- Build and lead a team of researchers to develop advanced lithium-ion batteries for next generation XR devices, from concept to advanced prototypes. Define and drive a lithium-ion battery research technology roadmap.
- Develop relationships, scope and lead engagements with academic and industrial research and manufacturing partners to explore new research areas to drive future battery technologies.
- Work with Cell Engineering, Cell Design, and BMU teams to transfer promising technologies from Research to Product
- support NTI and NPI programs.
- Build and manage a battery research laboratory
- oversee capital project planning, execution, and lab safety.
- Oversee development and implementation of advanced electrochemical models for Li-ion batteries for predicting battery performance, aging, and failure modes. Use simulation results to guide design decisions and optimize battery performance, reliability, and safety. Develop and implement test plans to validate model accuracy and improve model fidelity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD degree in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or similar discipline, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years experience with project leadership in a research or advanced product development environment.
- 5+ years experience with battery development, from concept to production, for high volume consumer electronics devices.
- 5+ years experience in physics-based modeling of electrochemical and mechanical performance and safety characterization of lithium cells.
- 5+ years experience using standard experimental techniques or developing new testing techniques to enable high accuracy of modeling.
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in battery cell aging mechanism identification, characterization, and modeling.
- Understanding of battery materials, chemistry, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with electrochemical cell characterization, cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and familiarity with Maccor/Arbin or other equivalent testing systems.
