Idaho National Laboratory’s Digital Engineering Department is seeking a Digital Twin Visualization Scientist.

The incumbent for this role will work a 9x80 schedule at our REC facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every other Friday off. Remote or Hybrid work opportunities may be available for this position.

Responsibilities Include

  • Serve as a visualization key contributor in digital twin and digital engineering programs.
  • Produce visualization products within cost and schedule.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope and complexity and only under general supervision with very little day-to-day instruction.
  • The scientist will have experience with of visualization technologies such as Unity/Unreal and the use of computer programming languages in the design, development, and testing of 2D and 3D visualization applications.
  • This position will focus primarily on digital twin and digital engineering visualization. Visualizations will focus on extended reality (XR) including augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and virtual reality (VR). Additional tasking will include using 2D and 3D technologies in a web browser.
  • Apply, on a broad basis, existing theories and concepts to a specialty field. Stays current in technology; solves wide range of complex problems; Collaborator on projects; Works with senior staff to grow internal & external technical networks.
  • Builds internal and external network; effective team member. Develops new division capabilities and creates new opportunities; prepares scientific products (articles, presentations, reports, IP); captures new funding (external preferred) and generates new ideas.
  • Works in teams; promotes culture of excellence, inclusivity, and growth mentality; deliver products that meet or exceed customer requirements; communicates project status effectively.

Minimum Requirements

Level 1: BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related field

Level 2: Bachelors Degree with 2+ years relevant experience, Masters Degree with 1+ year relevant experience, or PhD with 0+ years experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related field

  • Attend mandatory safety meetings as established by the organization.
  • Become an advocate for the VPP program at the INL.
  • Must be cognizant and comply with all relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Be knowledgeable of emergency action policies and procedures, methods for reporting/resolving unsafe work practices.

Preferred Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience contributing to and working within high performance teams within the boundaries of strong project and program management methodologies.
  • Personable, detailed oriented, and experience in interfacing with management and technical personnel at all levels.
  • A strong promoter of team play, good verbal and written communication.
  • Position will involve some travel and working outside of normal working hours.
  • Position will require journal publication
  • Programming, database, and analysis experience with at least three of the following: Unity (or equivalent), web visualization (Three.js, WebGL, etc.), extended reality (XR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and virtual reality (VR)

  • Salary Grade 200: Min: $81,288 Mid: $107,694 Max: $134,100
  • Salary Grade 210: Min: $93,492 Mid: $123,852 Max: $154,212
