Research Scientist Intern, AR/VR Wireless Systems (PhD)

Employer

Job Description

Meta Reality Labs Research (RLR) brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of AR and VR, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. The Surreal team is looking for the next generation of scientists and engineers to tackle the most ambitious problems in machine perception. The primary role of this internship is to rethink wireless system design (vs. SOTA) by investigating the fundamental differences available in future personal device systems enabled by machine perception, and leveraging the latest advancement of computer vision and AI. The goal is to push the boundaries of wireless system performance (e.g., capacity, data rate, reliability, efficiency) for future generation of wireless systems. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Research Scientist Intern, AR/VR Wireless Systems (PhD) Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the future Metaverse and AI use cases, and understand the fundamental differences for communication system design.
  • Analyze how to tie those fundamental differences to latest computer vision, AI advancements, and to wireless system design.
  • Design and implementing design space exploration experiments.
  • Build proof-of-concept system model, prototypes and demonstrations.
  • Collaboration with researchers across multiple disciplines and teams.
  • Communication of research agenda, progress and results to a cross-disciplinary team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in the field of wireless communications, or related relevant field.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of communication theory, systems, and channel modeling.
  • Experience with machine learning, deep learning fundamentals, latest computer vision advancements as well as SLAM system.
  • Strong programming experience with Matlab, C++ or Python, experience building machine learning and deep learning code base.
  • Proven track record of strong interdisciplinary research collaborations and delivery of research prototypes.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
  • Hands-on experience implementing end-to-end training of ML models from data collection and design to evaluation.
  • Proven track record of published research in the fields of wireless communications with cross-disciplinary correlations (e.g., visual, digital twin).
  • Intent to return to a degree-program after the completion of the internship.
