As the VR Optical Device Verification and Prototyping Lead Engineer you will be joining the VR Optical Engineering team that is responsible for the design, development, and productization of new VR optical devices to enable the future of VR products. You will be responsible for developing and executing our prototyping and validation strategy of new viewing optical device hardware. In your role, you will lead both internal and external prototype builds with a cross-functional team of optical, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, develop and execute on calibration and performance validation, and drive the maturation of the device and enabled feature towards product introduction. You will work on technologies from the concept and technology development phase through to product release.

VR Optical Device Verification and Prototyping Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a VR optical device prototyping strategy that includes device performance validation and new feature verification towards successful product intersection.
  • Coordinate with a cross-functional team of engineers, provide IC execution on prototype assembly, bring-up and debug, calibration, and test.
  • Work with hardware engineering and technology teams to understand product design requirements and own definition of validation/verification requirements and development of test systems.
  • Create fixtures and systems for optical, opto-mechanical, and reliability testing
  • Own and coordinate prototype builds end-to-end, drive to completion
  • Develop and execute on test plans from component specification to system functionality and end-user studies.
  • Improve the correlation of hardware performance to software, algorithm, and feature level performance
  • Drive clarity and focus for the project and the team by clearly defining goals and metrics of success and aligning with the team and cross functional partners.
  • Drive deep analysis while operating at a high level of abstraction, connecting the dots, understanding and articulating the strategy.
  • Champion a healthy and inclusive team culture while working toward team and company goals.
  • Up to 25% domestic and international travel required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Opto-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years in consumer electronics product development.
  • Experience with CAD (Nx, SolidWorks, Creo).
  • Experience with prototype development and validation.
  • Experience with design verification engineering, developing test plans, requirements analysis, and data analysis.
  • Experience bringing products from concept to production.
  • Communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Opto-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience in VR product prototyping and development.
  • Knowledge of optical, opto-mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Experience with automated testing.
