Support Staff Full-time New Position (2 Vacancies)

The incumbent is a member of the software engineering team with a strong focus on hands-on development of VR-AR Digital Learning Simulations, including designing, developing, testing, and integrating digital assets, such as 3D models and 2D art. This role also includes being a Sprint Release Coordinator (SCRUM-based), responsible for organizing release, sprint, and epic/story backlogs to prepare the Software Engineering team’s sprint plan for management approval. Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with three days on-site, and two days remote.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in gathering and interpreting business requirements to articulate business needs and inform asset development
  • Assessing project needs to build or buy assets
  • Developing assets using agile software development methodology and software quality testing best practices
  • Organizing and maintaining release, sprint, and epic/story backlogs
  • Facilitating SCRUM-based team meetings (e.g., Planning, Stand Up, Demo & Retro)
  • Working with Management to propose options to align and adapt release plans, coordinating strategic goals, road map objectives, and the output of the Development team
  • Providing technical support to the Development team, to help avoid and resolve software defects
  • Collaborating with the IT Ops team to ensure asset development infrastructure and processes are working, efficient, and optimized
  • Troubleshooting asset-level problems quickly and efficiently
  • Providing support for special projects such as VR Studio events, applied research projects, and recruiting or marketing events
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Three-year Diploma/Degree in Classical/3D Animation, Game Asset Design, Game Design, Game Programming or Software Development, Architecture, Industrial Design, Graphic Design or related field
  • Minimum three years of experience including designing, developing, and shipping digital assets for VR/AR products
  • Experience as a 3D Artist/Modeler and/or Industrial/Technical Artist is highly relevant
  • Experience with Unity-based based projects is strongly preferred
  • Experience developing educational digital products is strongly preferred
  • Significant digital asset development experience with tools, such as Blender or Maya
  • Significant work in developing digital assets for project built with C++, C#, Unity 3D, preferably using Microsoft technologies
  • Significant experience in collaborative software development including use of Git, Jira and Confluence or similar tools
  • Experience developing digital learning simulations, with a strong preference for 3D/VR simulations
  • Agile Software Development (SCRUM based) experience, including short sprint cycle
  • Past experience working at the VAR (Virtual & Augmented Reality) Lab is strongly preferred
