About The Role

Mass Virtual has an immediate opening for an Instructional Designer (Game/Level Designer) who has at least two years of professional (outside college) experience designing levels for games, serious games, or VR/AR. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing creative layouts, scripting, and sound design.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Implement learning modules using game engine level editor and scripting language
  • Proficient in level design layout, scripting events, 3D sound design, 2D design documentation, and all things gameplay-related
  • Execute the learning design direction and be responsible for designing and building environment content from whitebox to final quality
  • Provide level performance profiling and optimization passes
  • Take part in user testing sessions and ensure feedback is recorded, assessed, and applied
  • Proactively solve issues and seek feedback to ensure your work is always the best it can be
  • Work with stakeholders to assess needs and develop effective learning experience solutions across a variety of disciplines including Engineering, Design, Subject Matter Experts, and more
  • Ensure your work meets technical standards and is bug-free
  • Work with asset developers to ensure consistent, high-quality run-time performance is maintained
  • Approach complex challenges head-on, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to discover, understand, and translate learning requirements into actionable items

What You Need To Succeed

  • 2+ years of professional experience as an Instructional Designer or relevant degree
  • Excellent sense for creating outstanding user experiences
  • Experience designing levels for multi-user environments
  • Strong spatial and layout skills
  • Excited, passionate, proactive, and self-motivated
  • Must be able to adapt to new technologies
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)

Great To Have

  • Programming/scripting language in C#, LUA, Javascript, or other languages
  • Experience in high detailed Virtual Reality environments
  • Experience with 3D art packages such as Maya, 3ds Max, etc.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Understanding of Instructional Design theory and practice

Working Conditions

  • In-office 100% of the time
  • The person in this position must be able to stay stationary for long periods of time
