Job Description
Primary Function of Position:
We are seeking an intern to work with the 3D/AR Interaction Software Engineering group on the development of high-fidelity prototypes and simulations of future imaging and display capabilities. A successful candidate is able to quickly learn new tools/technology, has excellent hands-on problem-solving skills and a strong willingness to incorporate new learnings & ideas in an iterative and collaborative design process.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop prototype integrations of 3D rendering and display capabilities that can be evaluated on the da Vinci system’s high-resolution stereoscopic viewer.
- Work with clinical and human factors engineers to structure, execute, analyze and summarize findings from user evaluations of functional prototypes.
- Blend creative technical problem solving with practical software engineering
Qualifications
University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:
- University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
- Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.
Skills, Experience, Education, & Training
- Current enrollment in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, or related degree-seeking program at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level
- Strong familiarity with computer graphics and stereoscopy principles
- Competency with Unity rendering engine, scripting API and HLSL shaders
- Hands-on experience with VR/AR application development with Unity
- High-degree of technical creativity with a passion for delivering the best possible user experience

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay (paid at an hourly rate), benefits, and a housing allowance. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including relevant skills and experience for this internship, degree-seeking academic program (PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s, etc), year in school, and location. The hourly rate is prorated against the intern program salaries listed and total program compensation will be based on internship duration.
Base Salary Range Region 1:$74,400 - $111,600
Base Salary Range Region 2: $63,200 - $94,900
