This position will support multiple programs and research in the Augmented, Mixed, and Virtual Reality domains. We are looking for creative researchers to tackle challenging and exciting problems in support of the Reality Labs Human Factors Pathfinding UXR team. In this role, you will help explore input devices for the next generation of computing with a focus on physical comfort, natural motion, biomechanics, and human motor systems. You will play an active role in designing, planning, and running fast-paced research studies in a new research laboratory. The role will require technical competence in data collection and processing of biomechanical time series data, such as kinematics, EMG, and force data. You’ll work closely with prototypers, engineers, and other researchers seeking to design computing for the future!
Responsibilities:
- Design, plan and conduct studies to assist the explorations in next generation computing to understand how computer users may be impacted by novel computer experiences
- Collect and analyze biomechanical and physiological test data to understand the user’s experience and point of view
- Develop and execute scripts to analyze and interpret time-series data.
- Set up, maintain research laboratory equipment (up to 50 pounds), computer software, and lab supplies.
- Document, synthesize and present data
- Conduct literature reviews to self educate, and to help educate others
- Integrate and synchronize research equipment and with new technologies
- Ensure that participants are safe and comfortable during research studies
- Travel between neighboring company offices (1 mile) within downtown Seattle with prototypes and equipment

- minimum 2 years experience
- Human participant research experience
- Hands on lab equipment experience: data collection (calibration, recording data, and processing)
- Data analysis using a computer language (e.g. Matlab/Python/R) to filter, visualize and process data, especially in three dimensions
- C-Motion Visual 3D (ability to write and execute scripts)
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
- Consumer product development related research experience preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of kinematics, forces, and electromyography (EMG) data.
- Understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanical analysis tools and techniques.
- Experience with these types of data: mechanical, biomechanical, anthropometrical, animation, perception and physiological data
- Experience with these sensors: three dimensional motion capture, forceplates, strain gauges, accelerometers, pressure sensors, electromyography, etc…
- Ability to synthesize data and write test results in a clear and concise manner.
- Preference for a record of presenting and publishing experiments in journals and/or at scientific conferences
Education:
- Masters or Doctorate Degree or equivalent experience in fields such as: Biomechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Kinesiology, Exercise Science
