Job Overview

The intern/co-op/student will work on developing an Augmented Reality Interactive Modeling tool that overlays color mapping onto a physical object to indicate dimensional variance between the CAD master and physical model. This tool will enable real-time, precise alterations to the CAD files, and the goal is to improve accuracy, shorten development time, and lower the skill level required for these tasks while also expanding the use of Augmented/Mixed reality in other areas of product development.

The intern would act in a supporting role for research & development of AR (augmented reality), mechanical, and computer engineering functions. Under the engineering manager's direction, the individual will provide technical support in AR and software programming. The individual will work in a multi-disciplined engineering team that includes software engineers, data scientists, and material scientists.

Primary Role And Responsibilities

AR (Augmented Reality)

  • Develop an understanding of AR technologies.
  • Program and troubleshoot AR applications.
  • Evaluate AR technology and various hardware devices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective integration of AR technology into existing processes and systems.


Computer Engineering

  • Using programming languages and software design principles to develop custom experiences.
  • Program and troubleshoot software applications.
  • Support the integration of software programming into AR.
  • Develop an understanding of AR software design principles and have the ability to effectively communicate and apply this knowledge.


RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

Supervisory Relationships:

Reports to Manager – University of Illinois Research Park (UIRP)

Organization Relationships:

Collaborates with Digital Transformation engineering team for project and process guidance.

Works in close relationship to key business stakeholders (end customer internal to Kohler) for project requirements gathering, feedback, and updates.

Contact with external companies (I.E. hardware/software developers) for quoting purposes.

Skills/Requirements

Must be currently enrolled at University of Illinois -Urbana Champaign

Educational And Experience Requirements

Requires current enrollment and/or successful completion of study at University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or other related fields.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.

Must be self-motivated and able to function in a project team environment.

Prefered Skills/ Experience

(C#, or C++, or C), (Unity engine, or Unreal Engine) Python, CAD, 3D Modeling, Augmented Reality, Computer Vision.
