Job Description
At Meta Reality Labs (RL), we are at the forefront of developing the next generation of virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and augmented reality (AR) technologies. Our XR Graphics Team is actively seeking experts in the field to assess the visual quality of RL Head Mounted Devices (HMDs).
Image Quality Engineer Responsibilities:
- Develop and establish a system for evaluating the visual quality of HMDs
- Create test protocols tailored to AR/VR/MR systems
- Design and implement tools and scripts to automate data collection, test execution, and results analysis
- Define visual quality standards and metrics for VR/AR products
- Implement processes and quality testing procedures to ensure a robust, reliable, and secure hardware evaluation infrastructure
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Image Processing or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in research, advanced optics development, or a related area
- Proficiency in Matlab and scripting languages like Python, in both Windows and Linux environments
- Experience with Adb and Android Studio
- Expertise in evaluating the visual quality of VR/AR products
- Familiarity with NED measurement methodology
- Experience bringing image-based products (e.g., cameras, printers, displays) to market
- Understanding of common image processing algorithms and their implementation
- Experience managing production-level tradeoffs in typical image pipelines
- Previous experience working within cross-functional teams and knowledge of software/hardware design processes
- Familiarity with image quality algorithms/software such as DXO and Imatest
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in research, advanced optics development, or equivalent experience
- PhD in Image Processing or related field
- Knowledge of the human visual system and color science
- Familiarity or experience with image systems, displays, and laboratory tools such as spectroradiometers commonly used for evaluation
- Experience in human factors testing and psychometric testing paradigms
- Experience in developing real-world display technologies or optical systems, particularly in the context of AR/VR
- Proficiency in C/C++ or C# for digital image processing
- Proven communication skills for effectively conveying scientific concepts
- Attention to detail and robust problem-solving and analytical skills
