Job Description

Reality Labs (RL) Sensors Team at Meta is helping build novel products in Augmented and Virtual Reality. Our team explores, develops, and delivers new cutting-edge technologies that serve as the foundation of current and future AR/VR products at Meta. We are looking for candidates with experience in sensor systems, sensor fusion, and digital signal processing to assist with the development of novel hardware and software systems within the RL Sensors Team, while collaborating with experts across multiple domains.

Research Scientist, Sensor Systems Responsibilities:

  • Develop new concepts and technologies for next generation sensor systems, including alternative sensing modalities and novel sensing algorithms.
  • Research and develop emerging concepts in sensor fusion and digital signal processing.
  • Architect, design, and prototype critical sensor technologies that combine multiple sensing modalities, while balancing system-level constraints on size, weight, power, performance, and cost.
  • Develop relationships and lead engagements with external industrial and research partners to develop and scale novel technologies.
  • Collaborate with other researchers and engineers across Meta to develop novel hardware and software products that advance the state-of-the-art in AR/VR systems and wearables.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or related fields.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years industry experience in design and development of sensor fusion and digital signal processing algorithms for sensors such as gyroscopes, accelerometers, magnetometers, barometric pressure sensors, and ultrasonic transducers.
  • Experience in implementing Kalman filters, particle filters, and other Bayes filters in C/C++, MATLAB or Python.
  • Experience in signal conditioning, digital filtering, signal-to-noise ratio analysis, link-budget analysis, detection and estimation theory.
  • Experience in bring-up, debug, and testing of sensor hardware using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO), and/or Global Navigation Satellite System + Inertial Navigation System (GNSS + INS).
  • Familiarity with modern machine learning algorithms, specifically deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNN), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), Clustering, and Dimensionality Reduction.
  • Experience developing embedded systems using C/C++, Verilog, or VHDL.
  • Familiarity with the emerging Augmented and Virtual Reality technologies.
  • Record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by patents or first-authored publications.

About Meta:

Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology. People who choose to build their careers by building with us at Meta help shape a future that will take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today—beyond the constraints of screens, the limits of distance, and even the rules of physics.
