Lead In-Line Metrology Engineer

Employer

Job Description

At Meta Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. You will be part of a team that will enable the end-to-end process development of display optic solutions for FRL Hardware products. You will be part of a team that will engage with external partners to identify, develop, and deliver full process metrology capabilities that are critical in the overall flow that is needed to produce innovative products. Success will depend on close collaboration with both internal and external partners.

Lead In-Line Metrology Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Enable external partners to design and develop in process metrology solutions that can support our product development capabilities and requirements.
  • Engage with external partners to direct and align all metrology engineering workstreams into a cohesive metrology strategy to support critical product schedules and development needs.
  • Drive alignment on metrology requirements in response to design and product changes while maintaining development schedules and goals.
  • Develop methodology on establishing new metrology techniques and establish the correct partnerships with industry solution provides.
  • Interface with Design and Process teams to align metrology requirements to design requirements and support the transfer to the development process line.
  • Define, design and develop optical metrology solutions including hardware engineering, test software implementation, and instrument qualification.
  • Work closely with external partners to transfer products into manufacturing and enable effective investigate of root cause of failure/defects by enabling the right metrology capability to assign in problem solving.
  • Develop benchtop and production instrumentation to characterize complex optical modules and integrated systems (display and optics).
  • Communicate effectively within the development teams, with internal stakeholders, and with outside vendors.
  • Lead qualification activity with cross functional teams for end-to-end process.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills that support effective decision making.
  • Ability to work in external environments and travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or equivalent industry experience.
  • 7+ years of industry experience in Optical Testing and Metrology.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and experience in data analysis with tools such as Matlab, JMP.
  • Experience in test automation (instrument control and data collection) using LabView, MATLAB or Python.
  • Experience in optical metrology equipment and material characterization techniques like spectrophotometer, phase-shift and white light interferometer, surface profiling, and ellipsometer.
  • Understanding of Optical coating and application techniques.
  • Experience with integrating complex process flows, identifying the effective use on inline metrologies and establish effectiveness in projecting outgoing quality/performance.
  • Experience in opto-mechanical design and simulation using SolidWorks, NX or other CAD tools, Zemax, Code V, LightTools, FRED or other optical design/simulation tools.
  • Experience simplifying complex situations and drive focus on core activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skills with designed experiments and related statistical data analysis to drive process for chemical and mechanical processes.
  • Experience in computer vision metrics and techniques.
  • Knowledge of vision science and perceptual psychology.
  • Understand core methods to establish process baselines on complex process flows.
  • Familiarity with cosmetic inspection and quality control of coating and optical components.
