Job Description
At Meta Reality Labs, our goal is to explore, innovate and design the hardware for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. The mission of the battery team is to develop power sources for the devices that enable these experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Battery Algorithms Engineer to join our team, whose goal is to implement new battery algorithms to improve run time, reduce charge time, improve performance across temperature and extend battery life. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in developing, implementing, testing and validating new algorithms for Li-ion batteries.
Battery Algorithm Engineer Responsibilities:
- Propose, develop and implement battery algorithms to improve battery performance such as charge time, cycle life and run time
- Embedded firmware design and programming in C/C++ for development, debugging, testing and performance analysis
- Model development and algorithm simulation for early analysis and comparison
- Validate algorithms and and measure field performance
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S, M.S in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of industry experience in firmware development, algorithm development and implementation
- Working knowledge of protocols such as SPI, I2C and interfacing of microcontroller peripherals
- Modeling and coding skills in MATLAB, Python, C or C++
- Experienced in developing embedded applications for microprocessors
- Understanding of hardware, clock-level issues, delays, interrupts, clock gating, polling etc
- Willingness to work across multiple domains including electrical engineering, software engineering and validation as well as debug issues at the interface of different domains
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S/PhD with 5+ years of experience in software development for battery management systems
- Experience developing test plans to validate the algorithms and implementation for battery management systems
- Good understanding of real time operating systems
- Experienced in unit test, integration test and technologies using interfaces such as I2C, USB
- Experience with AI/ML based algorithms
- Knowledge of control theory and its application to Li-ion battery modeling
- Communication and personal management skills
- Experience developing handheld and wearable electronics for high volume manufacturing
- Working knowledge of battery fuel gauge algorithms for consumer electronics from semiconductor IC vendors
