Job Description
At Meta’s Reality Labs Research, our goal is to make world-class consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. Come work alongside industry-leading scientists and engineers to create the technology that makes VR and AR pervasive and universal. Join the adventure of a lifetime as we make science fiction real and change the world. Meta’s Optics & Display Research group (O&DR) is looking for an Organic Materials Process Engineer to build new-to-the-world optical and display modules, devices, and subsystems with organic materials and devices that are beyond state-of-the-art. You will be working with top experts in the field to design and develop novel processes to bring research concepts into functioning prototypes. You will further work with diverse, cross-functional teams to integrate the prototypes into systems on product roadmaps. You will also be able to influence the design of the technology at an early stage based on processing considerations. The ideal candidate should have strong technical depth in process development in certain areas such as wafering process and module process involving organic materials as well as breadth in adjacent areas such as display module processing, semiconductor backend processing, glass manufacturing process, etc.
Organic Materials Process Engineer Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with leadership, research scientists, simulation engineers, and system architects/engineers to devise processes to prototype new-to-the-world optical modules, devices, or sub-systems at early exploratory research stage.
- Explore and/or develop novel process technologies to enable multiple iterations of prototyping while ensuring the processes are manufacturable.
- Collaborate with vendors/partners, the business development team, the sourcing team, and technical program managers to identify capable industrial and research partners to develop novel process technologies.
- Execute on early prototyping builds with internal resources or external partners.
- Participate in New Technology Introduction (NTI) planning to ensure successful adaptation of the research concepts and prototypes in a product roadmap.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Polymer Chemistry, Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years of process development experience in one of the following areas: display modules, camera modules, optical sensing modules, other optical modules, display front end processing, semiconductor growth and wafering or backend processing, glass manufacturing, and grating/etch processing.
- Experience in project management and collaboration with cross-functional teams solving complex technical problems.
- 3+ years of experience leading projects through full cycle from early-stage concept to mass-producible or commercialized product for consumer electronics industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Polymer Chemistry, Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of process development experience in at least two of the following areas: display modules, camera modules, optical sensing modules, other optical modules, display front end processing, semiconductor growth and wafering or backend processing, glass manufacturing, and grating/etch processing.
- Demonstrated creative problem solving to find effective solutions.
- Demonstrated understanding of relationships between structure-property- processing-performance of a material.
