Materials Scientist - Polymers

Employer

Job Description

At Meta’s Reality Labs Research, our goal is to make world-class consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. Come work alongside industry-leading scientists and engineers to create the technology that makes VR and AR pervasive and universal. Join the adventure of a lifetime as we make science fiction real and change the world. As a Materials Scientist at Meta, in our Optics & Display Research group (O&DR), you will play a critical role in developing AR/VR systems. You will focus on developing advanced polymers for AR/VR displays, and will become part of a team exploring novel concepts through design, modeling, and fast iterative prototyping. We are seeking someone who works well in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment, who communicates complex concepts clearly and succinctly, who demonstrates scientific rigor, who is unafraid to tackle new challenges, and who works well in high-ambiguity discovery phases. If you are passionate about using your generalist-head to push the boundaries of what is possible, we want you on our team.

Materials Scientist - Polymers Responsibilities:

  • Develop breakthrough polymer materials whose performance has not been achieved in academia or industry for AR/VR applications.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML to predict new polymers.
  • Synthesize bench-top-scale new polymers to prove concept.
  • Identify polymer scale-up partner, drive the collaboration and deliverables.
  • Develop new film processes to meet AR/VR performance requirements.
  • Explore new material and process besides polymer for AR/VR applications.
  • Work with cross-functional team to achieve material-application-prototype delivery and tech-transfer to product.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD degree or equivalent experience in Polymer Chemistry or similar field.
  • 4+ years industry or post-doctoral experience.
  • Research experience in more than two material areas.
  • Experience with development of technologies across different fields within Physics and Chemistry.
  • Track record of high quality research deliveries.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Optical polymer or electrical polymer background.
  • Proven track record delivering research to product.
  • Strong teamwork, collaborative, and cross-team communication skills.
