The Opportunity

The Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) at the University of Central Florida’s (UCF) School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training invites applications for the position of assistant in Research Software Development. This is a contracts and grants (C&G) funded position with the U.S. Army as the current primary sponsor. IST is a leader in providing cutting-edge training technologies that span the Mixed Reality Paradigm. The qualified candidate will have opportunities to work with advanced head-mounted displays, develop dynamic training applications on a variety of platforms, and participate in a rapid-paced, production-oriented team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

The position requires a master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related discipline and two years of related professional experience, or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related discipline and three years of related professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Degrees in computer science or computer engineering are preferred, but applicants from other disciplines that associates with modeling and simulation will be considered.

Strong applicants will have experience in at least four of the following areas:

  • Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality concepts.
  • Artificial Intelligence - working knowledge of Unity's ML Agents.
  • Objective C/C++/Java software language.
  • Windows, Linux, and Mac operating systems.
  • Mobile platform application development (Android and IOS).
  • Commercial game engines such as Unity and Unreal.
  • Familiar with working with and creating geo-specific terrain.
  • Embedded software design and development (Arduino).
  • Visual development environments: IntellilJ, XCode, Visual Studio, QT creator, Eclipse, and Mono Develop.
