Job Description

Job Description: Summary:
At client, our goal is to explore, innovate and design Client interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are specifically looking for a candidate with a broad set of experiences, including embedded design, analog/mixed signal design, or sensors experience. The systems we work with could have ASICs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs from simple to large, displays, audio, inertial sensors, haptic interfaces, image sensors, and high-speed I/O. The ideal candidate would be comfortable designing mixed high-speed digital circuit boards, be experienced with troubleshooting at the board and system level, and have experience with display driver ICs. They should have enough firmware skills to successfully bring boards up and get them to a proof-of-concept level of readiness, and the ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.

Job Responsibilities:
Develop schematics, guide board layout, assemble, test, debug, and integrate multi-component electrical systems using industry-standard simulation and design packages such as SPICE, MATLAB, and Altium
Successfully bring up and debug opto-electrical systems that include image sensors, display driver ICs, lasers, depth sensors, switching power supplies, or low/high-speed digital communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, MIPI and USB SS
Able to adapt and respond to changing priorities
Simulate and test machine/structure/system operation.

Education/Experience:
BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience required
7+ years of industry experience in hardware design or electrical engineering roles, including use of schematic and board layout tools and bench test equipment such as oscilloscopes/logic analyzers/function generators

TOP MUST HAVES:
7+ years of industry experience in hardware design or electrical engineering roles, including use of schematic and board layout tools and bench test equipment such as oscilloscopes/logic analyzers/function generators

NICE TO HAVES
Experience designing camera aggregation systems
Experience in eye tracking systems

Story Behind the Need Business Group & Key Projects
The RL Research Eye Tracking team is developing Client sensors and systems for eye tracking robustness in AR and VR prototypes. The role requires someone who is willing and able to dig into the details of circuit design and work in the schematic tools to produce and bring up working board designs for our researchers.

Compelling Story & Candidate Value Proposition
At Client, you will have access to leading experts in a variety of cross-functional disciplines as well as a host of state-of-the-art tools and equipment. You will be enabling research both in data collection systems for user studies as well as to push the boundaries on what is possible in AR and VR form factors.

Typical Day in the Role
A typical day includes designing things like safety circuits for research prototype systems or integrating prototype designs into head mounted devices for demos and user studies.

How will performance be measured

PCB and hardware design using Meta design rules and best practices - the candidate will be expected to complete designs on schedule and document work in our schematic repository, with supporting "how to" documentation as appropriate. Reviews to be completed by the lead engineer on the team.

Support for technology demonstrators (demos) - The team will use both the circuit designed by the candidate, as well as lab equipment, in technology demonstrators. The candidate will support these efforts. Specific goals for these systems will be decided prior to the delivery of the demo.
