This position is a duration of 12 months.


The annual salary range for this role is $120,000-140,000 in New York.


Why we are recruiting

This position – Lead, Metaverse Governance – is part of the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR). The C4IR brings together leaders from business, government, international organizations, academia and civil society to shape the global agenda on technology governance.

The successful candidate for this role will work on the further development of a global multistakeholder initiative on the metaverse, focusing specifically on AR/VR/XR (extended reality)/Spatial Computing/Virtual Worlds ecosystem governance, with some involvement in the identification of value creation opportunities. The candidate will lead some and support other components of the next phases of this Initiative covering Identity in the Metaverse, Security in the Metaverse, and Industrial Metaverse applications.

This role will lead multistakeholder community projects focused on developing policy frameworks to define the XR ecosystem; crafting strategic leadership guidance in favor of widespread economic opportunity; and promoting a trustworthy, secure, and safe metaverse.


Reporting lines and interactions

The Lead will report to the Head of Governance and Trust, under the oversight of the Head of AI, Data and Metaverse. The role will work with key stakeholders across the Forum, including and other Center heads and leads, particularly AI, Cybersecurity and Advanced Manufacturing.

The Lead will get an opportunity to work closely with a broad range of external stakeholders, including businesses, governments, social enterprises and international organizations.

Main responsibilities

  • Manage projects and workstreams of the Defining and Building the Metaverse initiative, including maintaining project deadlines and budgets.
  • Develop a program of events covering priority issue areas (economic opportunity and interoperability, equity, inclusion and accessibility, safety and security, digital identity, ethics and integrity, and sustainability) that will lead to the creation of a practical framework for AR/VR/XR (extended reality)/Spatial Computing ecosystem governance and value creation
  • Work with Forum teams and external experts to capture relevant knowledge for use in programming, insight products and partnership development
  • Build relationships with senior representatives among leading companies, regulators, academics, civil society and government officials that are likely to hold influence over the ecosystem and may use prior Forum work to establish guidelines and guardrails for the use of the metaverse.
  • Explore and highlight interlinkages between trends and stakeholders, using Forum communities and events to create value for partners and suggest ideas/methods for further exploration
  • Curate cutting-edge online content to provide an in-depth perspective on latest developments and strengthen community engagement
  • Ensure cooperation with internal and external partners, building strong relationships based on trust and professionalism


Preferred requirements and experience

  • 6+ years of work experience in business, strategy consulting, and/or international organizations
  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Proven capacity to manage projects in collaborative and ambiguous environments, involving high-level leaders from business, civil society, academia and/or government, with experience producing written and digital public content for stakeholder consumption
  • Knowledge of the key actors in tech governance space and the implications of their strategies on areas such as business investment; diversity, equity and inclusion; content moderation; data policy and privacy or of related issues in other technology fields
  • Experience and leadership in stakeholder management or community engagement
  • Strategic thinker with ability to identify trends and patterns of transformation and demonstrated experience linking diverse concepts into coherent narratives
  • Excellent verbal and written language skills in English; verbal proficiency in other languages would be an asset
