Job Description
At Meta Reality Labs Research, we aspire to achieve a vision of social presence in VR and AR where people are able to interact with each other across distances in a way that is indistinguishable from in-person interactions. We are looking for exceptional Research Engineers who are excited about solving highly complex sensor calibration challenges at scale. For instance, automated joint geometric calibration of hundreds of cameras and controllable lights at micrometer precision, full camera sensor characterization (color, black / noise levels, etc) or full photometric light analysis. You will design, develop and integrate the algorithms and automated processes to solve these challenges at scale, as well as designing new calibration APIs and libraries that will be used in experimental and production setups. At our lab, you will be exposed to facilities, algorithms, and data that are years ahead of anything else in existence today. In particular, the project will leverage one of the largest multi-camera setup for digital avatar creation currently in existence. We want people who work well across disciplines, are excited about creating highly-reliable large-scale software systems, enabling research prototypes to work at scale, and are excited to work in new technology areas.
Research Engineer, Computer Vision - Reality Labs Responsibilities:
- Designing and developing complex calibration algorithms that enable full sensor characterization and calibration of a variety of sensors at scale.
- Formulating and solving numerical optimization problems in computer vision and computer graphics.
- Prototyping software solutions and software-hardware interfaces for characterizing, modeling and calibration of camera lenses and image sensors.
- Designing and building geometric, color, and photometric calibration solutions for multi-view systems, head-mounted displays, and large scale display systems.
- Developing robust software for integrating multiple sensors and embedded systems into scalable capture pipelines.
- Designing intuitive software APIs that researchers and engineers can effectively use.
- Collaborating with other researchers and engineers at Meta to develop experiments, prototypes, and concepts that advance the state-of-the-art in AR/VR systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2+ years experience designing and developing computer vision algorithms in C++
- 2+ years of experience with prototyping algorithms in MATLAB or Python
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years experience with multi-view camera geometry, geometric and photometric camera calibration, 3D reconstruction / SLAM, photogrammetry, and/or audio processing.
- MS or PhD degree in computer science, computer vision, or related technical field
- Linear algebra, 3D geometry, and numerical optimization experience
- Interpersonal and cross-functional experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
- Experience developing software for robotics applications with different sensors, e.g. RGBD camera, IMU
- Experience with parallel computing on CPU and GPU.
- Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g., GitHub).
- Experience designing and implementing database backend solutions in distributed compute environments.
- Proven publication track record at conferences such as CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, 3DV, etc.
About Meta:
Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology. People who choose to build their careers by building with us at Meta help shape a future that will take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today—beyond the constraints of screens, the limits of distance, and even the rules of physics.
