Job Description
We are seeking a TPM on the Optics and Display Research team who will work with a world-class group of researchers and engineers driving to develop combiner technology for next generation near to eye display and imaging systems. We are looking for a candidate who is resilient in pursuing solutions to hard and complex problems and is relatively versed in VR or AR display technology trends. A successful candidate will need to be comfortable working in a dynamic cross-functional team, be able to deal with a high degree of ambiguity and be flexible to cope with frequent changes.
Optics & Display Research TPM Responsibilities:
- Work with research, engineering, business and product teams to define roadmaps, program milestones and deliverables.
- Develop project schedules based on requirements, technical challenges, available resources, and business needs.
- Identify resources needed and work closely with the team leads to maintain full visibility of multiple projects, ensuring resource gaps are addressed efficiently.
- Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and communication issues and drive creative solutions to fix them and manage both technical and programmatic risks.
- Work cross-functionally to develop best practices and research development processes in a quickly-changing and dynamic environment.
- Engage with cross-functional and external teams to identify constraints, dependencies, and risks/issues.
- Coordinate communication between internal and external teams and partners.
- Report program status, issues, challenges and help needed with all stakeholders.
- Building teams, development processes, best practices, and supporting tools to support a growing organization.
- Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Display, Electronics, Semiconductor, Optics, Physics, or Material Science and 5+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager.
- Knowledge of optics research and development including manufacturing processes.
- Organizational experience, including managing cross-team budget and resourcing strategies.
- Project management, leadership, dependency management and cross-group technical collaboration experience.
- Experience managing external technical engagements.
- Experience working with a cross-disciplinary team of hardware engineers, researchers, and software engineers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in an engineering or scientific field related to optics and display.
- Knowledge of basic optical fabrication techniques as related to the AR/VR industry.
- Deep understanding in AR/VR combiner technology, electronics, optics, software, optimization algorithm, materials, process development & process improvement, and reliability engineering.
- Experience in project management on optics and display development especially in the consumer market.
- Multi-team/geographically dispersed team management experience.
- Track record of transitioning research or emerging technologies into consumer products.
