Job Description

Title:

XR Developer

Department:

Informatics

Reports To:

Assistant Professor

Position Type:

Staff

Position Summary:

The project uses Extended Reality (XR) to develop an “interactive narrative framework” to bring historical information and data to the public using three projects under the umbrella of the Digital Spatial History Lab at NJIT. We will be creating virtual "tours" that will allow users to navigate historic spaces in Istanbul and Rome, and we expect these tours to extend to AR in the future.

Essential Functions:

Work will entail the development of backend work as well as producing content for the projects. Students will use existing data and research and collect additional relevant data on one or more of the project topics: Ottoman/Turkish psychiatric institutions, street shrines in Rome, and consumer products in nineteenth-century department stores in Istanbul. This data (visual, textual, and potentially aural) will then be embedded in the VR or AR setting.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Unity development
  • Experience with Extended Reality (XR) technologies
  • Familiarity with creating and manipulating 360-degree images and videos
  • Strong knowledge of NERF techniques
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work or project experience involving XR applications
  • Familiarity with other XR platforms, such as Unreal Engine
  • Experience in developing interactive and immersive experiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
