Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies (FAHCS), the Technologist oversees the digital technologies of the virtual room. The Technologist possesses a deep understanding of the technical pipeline, best practices and all the processes needed to work with Unity, Unreal and Virtual Reality. The Technologist acts as a technical consultant to students, faculty and administrators with regards to software, virtual reality headsets, tracker suits and all other equipment. The Technologist works on development and application of technological innovations related to virtual reality content production and is responsible for researching new software programs and digital hardware, to determine the implementation of new technology as it relates to curriculum.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Collaborating on all stages of creative development from conceptualization, prototyping, and designing and implementing digital, video, and animated materials;
- Coordinating with key stakeholders on software requirements and solutions;
- Planning and developing client solutions including prototypes;
- Communicating regularly with members of the project team, providing development updates, coordinating meetings;
- Contributing to the continued improvement of software engineering techniques, best practices, and standards;
- Conducting research in accordance with current projects;
- Working with Software Engineering Lead to determine the best possible techniques and creative approaches;
- Creating digital models according to the developed concept or according to the obtained references;
- Producing and maintaining customized documentation or manuals designed to communicate best practices and recommending workflows to faculty and students
- Meeting with co-workers and co-op students to determine daily work priorities; guiding and advising colleagues within the program and co-op students to ensure that service in all areas of the program is carried out efficiently;
- Mentoring work study and co-op students, and provide training and feedback on the use of production and post-production workflow with generated 3D avatars and environments;
- Providing consultations, training and guidance to faculty, staff and students;
- Responding to requests from faculty or students to demonstrate equipment or software, troubleshoot, and answers questions related to technology and/or workflow.
- Developing policies and procedures for student use of program's equipment and facilities;
- Ensuring operations are compliant with Health and Safety guidelines;
- Ensuring that the equipment is in working order in the VR Lab;
- Working with industry and applied research development to create best-in-class software engineering solutions;
- Researching new software programs and digital hardware, and determining the implementation of technology as it relates to curriculum. Advising faculty on current industry and technological trends, and produces reports on the potential impact to curriculum and delivery;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

The Successful Candidate Will Also Meet The Following Requirements
- 3-year diploma/degree in Game Development, Animation, Visual Effects (VFX), Computer Science, Software Development, Computer/Software engineering or a related field
- 3 years of of experience working in the video game industry (equivalency will be considered)
- Competent knowledge of C# and/or other programming languages
- Competent knowledge and experience with Unity and Unreal
