We are searching for an innovative, creative, and empathetic leader to head the Design & User Experience Research (UXR) team here at Labster. Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, the VP of Design & UXR will lead a team of passionate and mission-driven product and design professionals to define our design strategy and elevate our user experience to engage learners across the globe.

Your role will involve shaping the way millions of students interact with complex scientific concepts through immersive experiences, driving the design vision and strategy across all of Labster’s products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the design and UXR strategy in alignment with Labster's objectives.
  • Oversee and guide UX research to better understand our user base, ensuring the insights gained translate into significant product improvements.
  • Collaborate with learning design and engineering teams in the creation of high-quality, user-centered products. This includes incorporating game design principles, virtual simulations, and VR/AR designs to enhance user engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of product & game designers and UX researchers, nurturing a culture of creativity, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Implement and manage design systems across various platforms and devices, including VR/AR environments.
  • Present design and UXR strategies to stakeholders and executive leadership, effectively persuading and influencing decisions.
  • Promote customer satisfaction and drive innovation within the design team, leading by example and setting high standards.
  • Navigate the team through ambiguity, ensuring decisions are grounded in data, and address any roadblocks that may arise.
  • Foster Labster's growth mindset among your team members, track progress based on circle and company OKRs, and support team members in achieving their goals and excelling in their roles.


Requirements

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in UX design and research, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving and applying user-centered design processes.
  • Deep understanding of UX research methods and best practices.
  • Proficiency in design software (such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD) and prototyping tools.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A robust portfolio of previous product design work that showcases your leadership and hands-on work. Your portfolio should showcase a proven track record of solving complex design problems with design-led thinking that exhibits a clean, polished design aesthetic coupled with a passion for pixel perfection, consistency, and usability.
  • Experience in the EdTech industry is a must.
  • Experience in game design, virtual simulations, VR/AR design is a big plus.
