Seeking an ambitious, self-driven candidate to join the Data Science team at Design Interactive; a woman owned small business in Orlando, FL assisting organizations in accelerating the adoption of XR: extended reality (AR, VR, MR) technologies.


Full-time • Hybrid remote and in office • Orlando, FL • US Citizenship required


Serve as Senior Data Scientist overseeing Data Science team; substantial proposal generator.


The main objective of this position is to, lead and and enhance research portfolios from Data Science and Machine Learning research perspectives. They will be responsible for implementing strategies for DI’s strategic positioning in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, specifically with regards to decision support systems and machine perception. They will partner with customers/entities to capture, develop, prioritize, and execute research projects that meet stakeholder needs, and answer critical research questions in the DS research area. This position encompasses a dual role of customer facing activities as well as research strategy execution.



Requirements

Education: Ph.D. (preferred) or M.S. in a technical field, such as Machine Learning, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or Computational Neuroscience / Computational Biology

Experience: 8+ years industry experience in AI/ML, Data Science; experience managing small and medium projects


The Senior Data Scientist will work with leadership to:

  • Conceptualize research approaches, and support the written and verbal communication of these ideas in the form of reports, presentations and proposals
  • Build and deploy statistical and machine learning models to solve a variety of research and applied science problems
  • Develop relationships with and implement strategies to identify and provide input to the research directions of key strategic customers
  • Develop strategies to capture and maintain high level of funding that aligns with customer research priorities and meets customer needs
  • Advance scientific customer relationships by engaging senior stakeholders and maintaining research relationships with data science and digital twin influencers to determine DS and DT research priorities
  • Develop subject matter expertise in DS and DT research topics of interest to customers, as well as competitor research capabilities, processes and systems
  • Ensure all research in the DS and DT research portfolios are customer-centric, as well as communicated via scientific publication when appropriate
  • Represent strategic customers on cross functional teams with internal partners

Desired experience:

  • A history of successful grant proposals and/or peer-reviewed publications
  • Processing, cleaning, organizing, and exploring data and using it to build and validate models using Python and the Python data science stack (e.g., numpy, scipy, pandas, sklearn, statsmodels, tensorflow, pytorch, pyMC3)
  • Functional and object-oriented programming paradigms in Python
  • Strong statistical foundation, including topics such as regression, estimators, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, and Bayesian statistics
  • Understanding of theory and applied research experience using advanced AI/ML approaches
  • Data visualization skills, including fluency with matplotlib or related wrappers
  • Oral communication skills, including the ability to present and interpret technical findings for non-technical audiences both externally and internally across teams at DI
  • Written communication skills, including the ability to succinctly describe technical findings for the purposes of generating reports, proposals, and other documents
  • A deep passion and curiosity to learn about new fields and statistical/ML methods and identify creative ways to apply these to new problems
  • A positive and proactive team spirit mixed with the independence to dive deep and figure out solutions to a wide variety of problems
