ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The USF St. Petersburg campus offers undergraduate degrees as well as graduate degrees that are specific to this campus in addition to working with degrees that are spread across all three campuses. We also run several K-16 Initiatives, programs like UMatter and Call Me MiSTER, as well as teach some undergraduate general education courses.

POSITION SUMMARY:


The College of Education, in conjunction with Academic Affairs on the USF St. Petersburg campus, have invested over a quarter of a million dollars into developing a state-or-the-art Emerging Technology Labs that will be used not only by the College of Education, but by the campus and University as a whole. Previously the College of Education invested over $1 million in funding for the STEM lab currently in use. The emerging technology lab features 10 virtual reality stations powered off of high-end computers with work stations. It is two classrooms that have been joined together to form one larger lab or can be closed off to keep two separate work / research areas. We are also anticpating a possible flight simulator and drones. STEM Education is a focus on the St. Petersburg campus but the entire College of Education has technology and innovative education as part of its identity. Thus, there may be projects across all three campuses (Tampa and Sarasota-Manatee in addition to St. Petersburg) as well as working with faculty in the College of Education who have an interest in technology and education.


The College of Education at USF - St. Petersburg campus invites applications for a Program Director - Educational Technology Labs position for the 2023-2024 academic year. This position's dates of employment will include August 1st, 2023 - July 31st, 2024.


The Program Director - Educational Technology Labs is responsible for determining the overall mission and strategy for the program, and for managing resources to fulfill that mission in accordance with priorities, time and budget requirements. This is a one-year administrative position. The Program Director must be able to develop proposals for external funding, and high level written and oral communication skills. The USF St. Petersburg campus for the College of Education houses two distinctive areas on campus focused on technology integrations. The first area is the STEM Lab (HWH 208 and 210) while the second area is the Emerging Technology Lab (HWH 220 and 224). With these new Labs, in combination with the STEM lab, the incumbent will oversee both facilities in multiple capacities. This position will directly report to the Campus Dean of the College of Education on the USF St. Petersburg campus.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Oversee and maintain all of the equipment in the lab as well as scheduled usage for the lab in terms of tours, research, and programs after academic courses have been scheduled (which are handled by the Campus Dean’s Office).


Network with faculty and adjunct community to help others stay aware of technologies in the classroom as well as maintain a working knowledge of them for their director.


Conduct tours, professional development, and public events. This includes extensive outreach to schools in the area.


Conduct nights and weekends outreach with the lab when needed. Certain programs will be expectations for the entirety of the event such as: St. Petersburg Science Festival and STEM Explorer Festival.


Leading summer camps as they relate to augmented and virtual reality (2 weeks) and robotics (2 weeks) which will be expected to be, at a minimum, self-sustaining. Includes creating final reports regarding attendance, goals, and budget.


Investigate and then implement strategies to bring in external revenue to the College of Education on the St. Petersburg campus via the labs


Be on site to assist with monitoring the suite (minimum three days a week 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on a scheduled developed by the suite staff/dean). The first week of classes and the week prior in the fall you will be expected to be on site every day. The other two days could be flex days for late events, weekend events, remote work, but may be on site days if schools are wanting a tour of the facilities.


Remain on-site for events in the STEM lab unless a faculty member is present and responsible for event(s).


Develop curriculum and tools aligned with technology affiliated with the two labs that can be implemented in current courses and to be used to invite school districts/home school groups to come to campus.


Work with marketing teams in St. Petersburg and the College of Education to have a strong social media presence.


Develop (or learn how to) technology-based tools (I.e. simulations from coding) so that this campus becomes a producer of tools in addition to a consumer.


Meet with all faculty on the St. Petersburg campus on a semester basis to help integrate technology into their teaching. Meet with faculty across all campuses who are incorporating educational technologies into their work and research.


Develop multiple partnerships with schools and regional groups in STEM education.


Maintain current knowledge on trends in educational technologies.


Perform service on committees as it pertains to STEM or technology, create an E-sports type curriculum partnership, and work with the Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement Initiative (MESA) program for site visits.


Perform other duties as assigned by the Campus Dean.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):


MINIMUM:


Bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the program responsibilities and seven years of professional experience; or Master's degree from an accredited institution in education, information technology, coputer science or related field and five years of professional experience.


Minimum three (3) years of experience working with technology and STEM education.


PREFERRED:


Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in education.


Ability to code and create simulations.


Experience designing, leading, and facilitating high quality professional development workshops.


SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:


Coding (Robotics, AR), technology (basic uses & and how to program). Experience working with others running professional development.
