JOB TITLE: Instructional Designer/ VR Software Engineer


LOCATION: Onsite - San Diego, CA


DURATION: 60 Day Contract


RATE RANGE: $31-$48/HOUR


Summary


Our client in the defense/aerospace field is looking for a skilled VR Game Environmental Artist to join their team under a 60 day contract.


Responsibilities


  • Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for utilizing Unreal Engine in the creation of Environment Art (3D Modeling, Asset Creation, Set Dressing, Advanced Materials, Lighting) for a VR training experience.
  • Work with manipulating CAD models
  • Pioneer new asset creation techniques for environment assets
  • Assist in optimizing performance on projects
  • Exhibit good color theory and technical expertise in primarily organic layout, lighting, scene composition, and environmental FX polish (bloom, color adjust, fog, etc.)
  • Create solid, high fidelity textures of any given surface.
  • Create shaders for environment assets, volumetrics, decals, ambient effects, etc. Coordinates requirements with users to determine illustrative objectives.
  • Ensures quality through use of engineering models and engineering drawings.
  • May represent the group, with internal and external customers and vendors, as a primary representative to ascertain project requirements and specifications and ensure schedule, cost, and quality requirements are met.
  • May provide technical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.


Qualifications


  • Typically requires a two-year degree in a related discipline or trade school equivalency and four or more years of experience in a related field. Equivalent work experience may be substituted in lieu of education
  • Must demonstrate considerable understanding of technical illustration practices and concepts; and engineering drawings of a highly technical nature and mark-up languages.
  • Must have ability to adhere to drafting standards and specifications, strong knowledge of file formats and their functions, file export requirements and developing illustrations and animations.
  • At least 3+ years of relevant industry experience and shipping multiple titles as a AAA Game Environment Artist.
  • Highly skilled in relevant software, Unreal Engine, 3DS Max, Photoshop, Zbrush, Substance, etc.
  • Excellent Animation skills in software, including 3DS Max and Unreal Engine 5.
  • Programming skills and knowledge of C++ or Objective C or Swift.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Expert knowledge in Unreal Engine 5 Environment art.
  • Expert proficiency in 3D workflow areas like modeling, UV, texturing, lighting & rendering.
  • Experience with Oculus Rift/Quest and other VR Platforms.
  • Positive attitude and proven track record in creative problem solving with expressed interest in new technology and processes.
  • Must be able to understand and manipulate 3D engineering models, strong knowledge of file formats and their functions, file export requirements.
