We are seeking a UX Researcher on a contract basis to help support our Customer’s business needs. As a User Experience (UX) Researcher on emerging products in the augmented reality and virtual reality space, the candidate in this role will have the opportunity to work with teams conceiving, building, and launching brand-new products. Research is paramount to this organization’s success - formative research is needed to identify the right latent needs or problems in the world to tackle with product solutions, iterative design research is needed to mold early product ideas into testable prototypes, and creative evaluative research is needed to improve and prepare those products for the market.


What You’ll Do


  • Work closely with product teams to define and conduct impactful research
  • Collaboratively and independently develop and execute research roadmaps
  • Design studies that address both user behavior and attitudes
  • Lead various research studies throughout all the phases of the product development cycle
  • Conduct research using a wide variety of qualitative methods and a subset of quantitative methods, such as surveys
  • Generate insights that both fuel ideation and evaluate designs and understanding of quantitative concepts
  • Contribute to product strategy, execution, and go-to-market plan
  • Work cross-functionally with design, product management, research scientists, content strategy, engineering, and marketing
  • Communicate results and illustrate recommendations in compelling and creative ways


Must-Haves


  • 3-7+ years of experience in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Systems, or a related field
  • Concrete experience in 0-to-1 product space, ideally related to Augmented Reality/Visual Reality/ Three Dimensional (AR/VR/3D)
  • Knowledge of key research documents
  • Knowledge of usability evaluations
  • broad skills in qualitative and design research methods
  • Knowledge of inspection methods - cogitative walk-throughs, comfort with generative and evaluative research
  • Ability to establish a strong user research presence, including tactical research to help guide specific product choices to more foundational research to help us continue to build up the knowledge base for future products
  • Knowledge about User Interface (UI) design
  • Passion for social computing
  • Comfortable in a flat, fast-moving organization, excited to collaborate, and focused squarely on impacting design at the organization
  • Experience working on emerging early-stage technologies and product innovation
  • Strong ability to work independently and manage one’s time
  • Experience with data and utilizing numbers to define and support hypotheses
  • Experience with storytelling to get traction with various audience
  • Experience with autonomy and decision-making to balance demands
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience at other large companies would be a plus


Education


  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Behavior related field, such as Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, Communication, Information Science, Media Studies, Linguistics, Anthropology, Sociology, Market Research, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field
  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. preferred


Hours & Location:


  • M-F, 40 hours/week. This role will be onsite at our Customer’s Burlingame, CA, or Seattle, WA office.
