These new technology initiatives (NTIs) span from smaller efforts providing incremental improvements to large multi-year bets with significant technology, schedule, scalability, and cost risks.The AR hardware team in Meta Reality Labs is looking for a Technology Strategy Lead, who will be responsible for managing the portfolio of NTIs across the AR & Smart Glass hardware product lines over multiple generations. The lead will work cross-functionally with teams such as product management, product architecture, engineering, research, operations, and technical program management to drive clarity, alignment, efficiency, and world-class engineering execution for each NTI.We are looking for individuals who have experience in technology or product development both in-house and with external partners, and who have the breadth and depth of knowledge to drive the technical choices and direction of all the phases of the technology development process.
Technology Strategy Lead Responsibilities:
- NTI planning, structured execution and delivering Product POR interception across multiple AR HW technologies in several product lines over multiple generations.
- Implement best practices and raise the bar on technology management, including product and technology development processes, tech transfer, risk assessment, etc.
- Collaborate with technology teams and cross functional partners to develop a cohesive technology plan across all components and roadmap for multiple generations of the product. Drive cross-functional efforts to define system and component requirements. Resolve requirements discrepancies at different levels. Communicate progress, challenges and orchestrate trade-off analysis when required to overcome issues. Ensure learnings from current generation products are documented and applied to future products.
- In partnership with Operations, Sourcing, and Technology development teams, crystallize the value proposition, cost analysis including R&D, investments, and BOM cost impact, the MP scaling strategy, and reuse/partner/build decisions.
- Be the catalyst for cost engineering. Drive cost reduction by identifying opportunities in design, process, or manufacturing, and getting engineering, product management, sourcing, and operations buy-in while balancing technical risk vs. cost benefits.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in product development
- BS in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or equivalent work experience
- Experience in cross-functional and executive communications and presentations
- Experience in managing system engineering tradeoffs, balancing performance, industrial design, cost, development time/resources, and risk
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in full life cycle product development with new-to-the-world consumer electronics technologies in one or more of the following areas: device design, system or chip design, optics, enclosures, wireless, technology IP, fab process, and/or fab equipment, pilot production and scale-up for mass production
- Experience in AR/VR/MR hardware at the system-level
- Experience in strategy and roadmap definition
