Reality Labs Research (RL-R) brings together a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers to create the future of augmented and virtual reality. On the Codec Avatars Infrastructure team, you’ll work on building network infrastructures and you will collaborate with engineers and researchers to capture, store, and process the large amounts of data needed to enable the generation of Codec Avatars.Our team cultivates an honest and considerate environment where self-motivated individuals thrive. In this network engineer role on the Codec Avatar Research team, you will foster our scientific explorations and generate viable paths to the consumer products that will connect people in meaningful ways for decades to come.


Network Engineer, Reality Labs Research Responsibilities:


  • Build and scale the network infrastructures used within the Codec Avatars capture spaces and processing pipelines
  • Design and implement new network system architectures with increased fail-over reliability, higher throughput, and better diagnostics capabilities
  • Facilitate network deployments and bandwidth provisioning for future sites and facilities
  • Provide on-call support and incident root cause analysis related to network outages and reliability issues
  • Interface with Meta production infrastructure teams and large scale multi-node clusters for data processing pipelines


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience working independently, handling large projects simultaneously, and prioritizing team roadmap and deliverables by balancing required effort with resulting impact
  • 5+ years experience in network engineering
  • 5+ years experience automating the management of infrastructure and services
  • Thorough understanding of network and switch topologies
  • Experience developing and understanding network device configuration for at least one vendor (Juniper, Cisco, Arista, Brocade, Nokia, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP and IPv6
  • Field experience with network deployments
  • Experience with AVB (Audio Video Bridging) and stream reservation protocols
  • Experience working in a Research Lab environment, with evolving priorities and requirements
