Job Overview

The Radiologic Technologist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients’ service on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/area/department’s policies and procedures.

Salary: $39.18 - $45.53 per hour, DOE

ETHICS AND COMPLIANCE

Employee performs within the prescribed limits of SEARHC Ethics and Compliance Program. Is responsible to detect, observe and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Officer or hospital hotline.

Essential Functions
  • Must provide radiographic /Sonographic examination of all body parts for diagnostic interpretation. Must exercise professional judgement in performance of procedures applying principles of radiation protection.
  • Perform diagnostic medical radiography /sonography within department and other areas.
  • Maintain patient records and files.
  • Assume responsibility for departmental quality assurance program.
  • Pursue continuing education.
  • Transfer patient to and from radiology.
  • In absence of supervisor, assume responsibility of department.
  • Rotate shifts as required .
  • Perform ancillary duties as requested by supervisor.
  • Follow policies and procedures as set up by SEARHC Administration.
  • Assist in general hygiene of department and self.
  • Should be able to work well in situations of stress.
  • Must be willing to able to take call and report to work within 20 minutes.
  • Must be willing to learn other imaging modalities as Manager sees fit.
  • Must be able to perform duties in two field s of imaging and willing to work outside of modality, i.e., Ultrasound, MRI, CT, Mammography.
  • Must maintain competency in ancillary modality.
  • Able and willing to perform other duties as assigned.
Ct/ Interventional
  • Responsible for care of equipment in this area.
  • Responsible for record maintenance.
  • Assist with invasive procedures and knowledge of these procedures.
  • Active part in the preparation of procedure in this area.
  • Consult with referring physicians.
  • Strive towards the goal of venipuncture.
  • Follow standard precautions procedure.
  • Alter routine protocols to provide quality care to pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
  • Change contrast levels per age group.
  • Set up and run automatic injector.
  • Familiar with contraindications of contract.
  • Competent in tele-radiology transmission.
  • Competent in sterile technique.
  • Actively assist in supply inventory and ordering.
  • Daily/Weekly QC
Secondary Functions

Attends department/organizational meetings, in-services, and disaster drills.

Qualifications

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required
  • Current ARRT in Radiography
Experience Required
  • Able to perform all diagnostic exams as related to assigned modality.

  • Tech II – ARRT (CT, MR, MG, NM)
  • Tech III – ARRT (CT, MR, MG, NM)
  • Tech IV – ARRT (CT, MR, MG, NM)

  • BLS Certification
Travel Required
  • Travel may be required to provide services to various SEARHC sites.
Safety and Risk Management Responsibilities : Technologist /radiographer have the key position in protecting the patient.
  • Utilize at least two patient identifiers ;
  • Inform the patient ;
  • Verify that the female patient is non- pregnant;
  • Contribute to the preparation of specifications for new equipment;
  • Participate in the optimization of imaging protocols;
  • Perform the imaging procedure following an optimized protocol and ensuring patient protection;
  • Perform regular quality control of radiological equipment;
  • Take record of patient doses;
  • Inform the radiologist and radiation protection officer (RPO) in the case of an accident or incident.
Physical Demands

15-85% of work time: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, or pushing up to 35 pounds independently. When lifting, carrying, or pushing greater than 35 pounds assistance or assistive devices will be used. 0-15% of work time sitting.

Work Environment

Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. This includes all procedures or job-related tasks that involve potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body f luids.
