Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.
  • This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

General Motors (GM) is seeking a Global Aftersales Immersive Engineering Specialist with strong project management, problem-solving skills, and immersive virtual reality software capabilities. As part of the Global Aftersales Virtual and Immersive team, we will use the latest immersive technology to develop the vital processes and harmonies to support an Immersive Service environment, ensuring global collaboration and alignment. The ability to identify problems, develop virtual reality (VR) applications, learn service, manufacturing, and product design concepts, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced industry is a vital element of this role. We will also be involved in ‘pilot’ activities outside of the lab where we work directly with our customers to implement and scale successful solutions on their Programs.

This will be an excellent fit if you can empathize with our multi-functional Customers, translate their needs into requirements, and provide immersive solutions that resolve their problems. We are looking for people with passion for working with virtual reality including combining various HMDs, computers, tracking systems and simulation software to deliver an engaging virtual experience. There will be opportunities to work strategically to select the best alternatives for each of these subsystems and work tactically to resolve compatibility issues and build a working solution. You must enjoy working as a Team while also taking accountability to make tough decisions and deliver results. Due to the innovative nature of our work, you will need to anticipate setbacks, proactively apply findings, align partners and have a desire to win while doing it with integrity.

Principle Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • Use Immersive Virtual Reality Engineering Software to create real-time physic simulation for users to develop, validate and deliver Service content
  • Develop and coordinate training to enable role base use of Immersive technology capability
  • Keep up to date on existing and future immersive technology to enable strategic development, as well as driving IT and supplier technology roadmaps
  • Analyze data from existing processes, identify priority problems, and develop solution alternatives
  • Develop, iterate and refine the solution until our needs are achieved
  • Apply Practical Problem-solving principles to test and gather feedback on your solution enabling data-driven decision making
  • Use project management skills to clearly articulate the problem you are trying to tackle, coordinate the basic tasks needed to complete the project and anticipate/raise issues before they become a major problem
  • Demonstrate your solution by quantifying its benefit, cost, and efficiency
  • Investigate and recommend potential off the shelf solutions that make a strong case in lieu of internal development
  • Learn and bring to bear GMIT standards to enable continued use and future integration of these tools with GM’s IT platform
  • Collaborate with Service, Manufacturing and Product Engineering teams to understand their strategic directions, requirements, and use-cases
  • Facilitate communication between regions and alignment of global processes and requirements.

Additional Job Description

Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automotive Technology, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency with 3D math and visualization (CAD, modeling, etc.)
  • Working experience using Immersive (VR/MR) system software and hardware (Headsets, Tracking, Peripherals)
  • Shown proficiency to effectively interact at all levels across the organization, working to build and maintain successful relationships across all departments.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently and as a member of a team
  • Quantitative and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Proven track record to handle numerous projects and assignments with medium level of autonomy and high accountability for results
  • Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills

Desired Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, vehicle development process, change management, immersive/virtual engineering systems
  • Working knowledge of automotive service practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated prior hands-on experience in automotive diagnosis and repair
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others
