From equipment, operators, studio staff, and space rental the Studio Department of XR Studios facilitates operations of our equipment assets. As the home base for not only production but daily operations and leadership collaboration, the Studio is pivotal to our company, and the studio technicians are the ones who ensure things run smoothly. The Studio team is the backbone of the company, bringing visions to life through their dedication to caring for and maintaining the working order of the equipment and the space.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Studio Engineer carries out the maintenance and readiness of all Studio equipment. Including LED, media servers, cameras, tracking systems, broadcast and streaming equipment. They are intimately familiar with the gear and how it works and are ready and willing to make any adjustments to gear placement/routing/status at all times. They are constantly learning and applying knowledge of gear operations, including set up, maintenance, and storage, and are very comfortable with signal flow and various GUIs. The Studio Engineer is present on live productions as part of the studio technical team and takes responsibility for the equipment readiness of XR Studios. Studio Engineers report directly to the XR Studios Technical Director, though they support all departments and are willing to lend their expertise to any piece of XR Studios equipment.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creating:

● A professional, stable, and versatile technical space with the ability to shoot and manage top quality XR productions

● A safe environment for all members of staff, crew, and talent to operate in

● A work environment that is clean, tidy, and organized to a professional standard, including sweeping studio space, dusting gear, cable and gear organization

● A clear process for cataloging and tracking equipment repairs and upgrades

● Concepts and suggestions to workshop in collaboration with the Tech Director to expand studio capabilities and inventory solutions

● A top tier training space for the next generation of XR Studios’ technical minds Knowledge:

● Range of gear compatibility and how to maintain longevity, as well as compatibility issues and workarounds

● Must be familiar with: Lighting, LED, Power, Media Servers, Camera Equipment, Video Infrastructure, Audio, Routing, and XR/AR/MR

● Cable Management and rack organization

● Experience in a live production atmosphere

● No stranger to stressful environments, with the ability to react quickly and confidently

Owns:

● Updating and maintaining equipment and software:

● Following weekly checklist that includes departmental rundowns

● Daily checks of cables and storage

● Overall care of studio equipment cleanliness and general upkeep of studio as a whole

● Logging maintenance issues

● Creating detailed RMAs

● Maintaining a roll-back database in communication with Technical Director

● Maintaining studio technical readiness at all times (productions, demos, R&D, etc.)

● Ensuring gear is returned and accounted for at the start of the day, and powered off and stored correctly at the end of the day

● Run daily boot procedures, ensuring peak working condition of the stage for Creative technologists

● Meticulous labeling and organization across departments

● Color Coding runs, and P-Touch labeling within storage racks

● Partitioning and organization of cables and racks per department

● High working standards of all gear within the studio space

● Logging and recording of any reported issues with either hardware or software to the Technical Director and corresponding supervisor

REQUIREMENTS OF THE OF THE POSITION

Education:

● Technical degree or certification from a reputable college or technical training program

Experience:

Minimum of one to three (1-3) years of professional video broadcasting technical experience.

This role requires video experience, for audio experience will not be considered in this role.

● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, stooping, climbing, and lifting Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds overhead. Must have ability to travel throughout facility as required, including when area is partially or mostly obstructed.

  • 10 hour shift
