General Description Of Position
The Research Assistant will be primarily responsible for managing the VR and audio recording equipment and scheduling and administering VR simulations as well as pretests and posttests with each participant.
About The Project
The Ivy Tech/Purdue University National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education (NSF ATE) project team has developed an adaptive virtual reality (VR) platform to help manufacturing technician students better learn and apply communication skills. Students in Ivy Tech’s advanced manufacturing programs will participate in the VR simulations, while the paid research assistants will help to oversee the project. Major Responsibilities: Primary Responsibilities:
- Participate in a one-day VR equipment and Qualtrics Survey platform training session on the Purdue - West Lafayette campus
- Complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) training for human subjects research
- Coordinate, schedule, and manage appointments with participants in the virtual reality study with the Purdue HRD Virtual Lab and the Purdue project team using the scheduling platform
- Sanitize the VR and audio recording equipment before and after each use to follow IvyTech procedures
- Charge the VR and audio recording equipment between each use
- Administer the pretest and posttest to each VR simulation participant via email according to data collection timelines
- Store the VR and audio recording equipment in the designated, secure location at the appropriate campus
- Briefly train each VR simulation participant on how to use the equipment
- Troubleshoot issues with the VR and audio recording equipment during simulations
- Remain in the same space with each participant during their VR simulation
- Be available to further assist participants as needed
- Submit data securely to the research team as needed
- Participate in research team meetings as requested
- Assist the research team with other project-related duties, as assigned Minimum Qualifications:

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
