General Summary
Qualcomm's XR Architecture group works with a diverse array of technologies and teams to design the end-to-end solutions that will power the next generation of Snapdragon AR/VR devices. For this role, we are seeking an XR Systems Engineer with a strong complementary software engineering skill-set to engage in hands-on XR system design work while simultaneously enhancing our modeling and analysis frameworks. A successful candidate will serve dual roles as both an XR systems engineer contributing to the broader team initiatives, and a developer of the tools that enable these initiatives.
In a Tool Developer Capacity, The Candidate Will
- Gather requirements from a wide user base and develop a methodology roadmap
- Coordinate and execute methodology roadmap by way of direct code contributions, collaboration, and delegation
- Apply sound software engineering design principles to ensure the long-term maintenance and viability of any tools being developed
In An XR Systems Engineering Capacity, The Candidate Will
- Work with technology, hardware, and software experts to translate use case requirements into system specifications
- Analyze and understand XR hardware and software systems operating in resource and power constrained environments
- Use cases and dataflow analysis with a focus on optimization of power and performance KPIs
- Produce high level system design documents and descriptions
This role will directly influence Qualcomm’s XR roadmap, impacting CPU, GPU, DSP, ISP, ML, and CV technology development. In addition, this role offers a potential for outsized influence within the company through standardization of methodologies across functional areas alongside XR (e.g. mobile, automotive).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
- Works in the lab, can use hazardous chemicals (e.g., glue, machinery).
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred skills and experience
7+ years Systems Engineering or related work experience
2+ years professional experience in multimedia technology areas such as augmented/virtual reality, sensing, imaging, displays, computer graphics, computer vision, cameras, biometrics, speech, and audio
Advanced virtual and augmented reality design concepts including low-latency architectures, split-processing architectures, reprojection/warping, head/eye/body tracking, environmental reconstruction, video see-through mixed reality, and spatial codecs
Power/performance use case specification, modeling, and optimization
Knowledge of quantitatively assessing hardware implementation requirements of algorithms
2+ years software development project experience with emphasis on Python language proficiency
Ability to work within a large existing codebase
Proficiency in collaborative workflows and version control using Git/Github
Excellent communication skills with cross-functional teams designing complex products
Able to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with geographically and functionally distributed teams
Strong analytical problem solving skills

Pay Range
$139,000.00 - $208,000.00
The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
