Collins Aerospace is seeking an Instructional Systems Design (ISD) Subject Matter Expert (SME). This ISD should have documented experience developing curriculum for instructor-led training (ILT) and computer-based training (CBT) supporting aerospace/avionics, and communications products. This job requires expert knowledge in adult learning theories, methods, strategies, best practices, techniques of instructional curriculum development, and evaluation to assist in the development and delivery of lessons related to aerospace/avionics training.
Goal: Better prepare customers and learners to operate effectively by improving their knowledge, skills, and retention operating and maintaining Collins Aerospace products.
Must be a commutable distance from Cedar Rapids, IA to work a hybrid schedule reporting on-site as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content
- Working with SMEs to identify target audience’s training needs
- Applying tested instructional design theories, practice, and methods
- Defining and documenting learning objectives
- Creating instructional material: courses, curriculum, student guides or training manuals
- Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc.)
- Designing/Redesigning content to optimize learning
- Converting in-person training to online training
- Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface, and the finished product
- Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts
- Decide on the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments
- Develop a plan and timeline to create instructional design documentation; products may include, but are not limited to, storyboards, narrative scripts, graphics, textbooks, tests, and scenario props. All designs shall adhere to the standards set by the recognized models.
- Design and develop curriculum, total course materials for participants and facilitators, including student outlines, handouts, facilitator guides, performance exercises, evaluations, activities, job aids and all other required materials
Basic Qualifications:
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Typically requires a University Degree (preferably in Industrial Design) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
- Possess expertise developing courseware for a variety of training delivery methods including ILT and e-Learning
- Knowledge and experience with military training development standards such as the MIL-HDBK-29612
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience facilitating focus group discussions, conducting classroom learning sessions, seminars, and workshops
- Able to communicate effectively with customers determining training needs and requirements
- Desired experience developing and designing training utilizing VR, AR, MR, and XR
- Desired experience developing and designing training utilizing game engines such as Unreal Engine 4 or Unity 3D
- Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
- Understanding of Learning Management Systems
