Groove Jones, a world-renowned and award-winning studio specializing in Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Interactive Entertainment technologies, is currently seeking a 3D Environment Artist (contract).


As a 3D Environment Artist, you will be responsible for creating immersive and visually stunning environments for various digital media, including video games, films, virtual reality experiences, and architectural visualizations. Working closely with the art and design teams, you will play a crucial role in bringing virtual worlds to life, ensuring that environments are visually appealing, technically optimized, and align with the project's artistic vision.


Responsibilities:

  1. Create high-quality 3D environment assets, including landscapes, buildings, props, and natural elements, using Maya or Blender.
  2. Collaborate with the creative director and design team to understand the artistic vision and technical requirements for each project.
  3. Develop and implement the design of environments, ensuring consistency with the project's style, theme, and overall visual direction.
  4. Optimize 3D assets for performance and efficiency, considering polygon counts, texture sizes, and other technical limitations for use in Unity
  5. Collaborate with the level design team to integrate environment assets into Unity
  6. Create textures and materials that enhance the visual quality and realism of environments, including color, lighting, and texture maps.


Qualifications:

  1. Solid understanding of 3D modeling, texturing, and lighting principles, with a strong portfolio demonstrating proficiency in environment art.
  2. Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Maya, or Blender, as well as texturing software like Substance Painter
  3. Knowledge of real-time rendering techniques and experience working with game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine.
  4. Strong artistic and design sensibilities, with the ability to create visually appealing and cohesive environments.
  5. Understanding of composition, color theory, and lighting techniques to create atmosphere and mood in environments.
  6. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work within technical limitations and project constraints.
  7. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and incorporate feedback.
  8. A passion for video games, film, or related visual media, with a keen eye for detail and a dedication to delivering high-quality work.
  9. Previous experience in the gaming or entertainment industry is highly desirable, but not required.
  10. A bachelor's degree in art, computer graphics, or a related field is a plus, but equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
