At Meta Reality Labs, we innovate novel optical hardware for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality devices. ADOPT team is a new team within Meta Reality Labs and more specifically within Display and Optics org. The goal of the team is to incubate and deploy the disruptive technologies from NTI to products. We are specifically looking for an Application Engineer with an additional role in equipment support & maintenance.The ideal candidate would have a keen ability to adapt/learn, work collaboratively across fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams. This candidate is comfortable taking the concept ideas all the way from a rough idea to a working and presentable concept through hands-on assembly and integration. We need someone who is well-versed in taking on high level tasks, determining what low-level steps need to be taken, and working in a self-guided fashion toward achieving the desired outcome.The equipment support and maintenance role will require to provide preventive maintenance and ad hoc involvement in keeping the equipment used in the ADOPT lab running with back office support from the equipment team in Europe.


Application Engineer Responsibilities:


  • Work with product teams to map out the project roadmap, milestone, and DOE plan.
  • Deliver on-time the agreed applications.
  • Pro-actively contribute ideas to support ADOPT and to trigger the right discussions.
  • Drive the 3D printing platform operations to meet the optics design requirements in prototyping projects and product POR.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify and enable novel materials, processes, and tools in the area of heterogeneous integration for future optical systems.
  • Integrate the concept prototypes using 3D printers, injection molding, CNC machines and hand tools.
  • Partner with the other members of ADOPT for market trends to identify the necessary technology developments.
  • Organize the maintenance and repair of equipment, machine calibrations, and operation spot checks to ensure the normal operation of daily engineering efforts.
  • Equipment training to internal and cross functional teams, promoting process optimization on the equipment.
  • Oversee the installation, modification, and upgrade of equipment in support of high precision requirements on product optics.
  • Regularly analyze equipment measures and maintenance activities to initiate continuous improvements for overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Perform failure analysis of equipment and components, develop, and implement predictive maintenance methods to reduce unscheduled downtime and increase reliability of equipment.
  • Innovator, original out of the box thinker yet persistent, practical and results oriented.
  • Up to 10% domestic and or international travel required.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of experience in technology with experience in a similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience on leading a lab work including equipment service, and DOE executions.
  • Experience with internal customer interactions.
  • Knowledge of 3D Printing, hardware, process, and materials.
  • Experience translating complex ideas into printable high-quality concepts.
  • Experience designing and delivering prototypes and small-scale batches.
  • Understand the dynamics of integration optics, high-tech electronics and product design.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Materials or Industrial Engineering.
  • Hands on experience with 3D printing, injection molding, polymer extrusion and thermal forming.
  • Experience with data analysis and statistics using JMP, Minitab or other data analysis software.
  • Experience with electronics and mechanical systems testing, associated data analysis and statistics.
  • Experience with FMEA and tolerance analysis.
  • Optical and mechanical metrology experience.
  • Experience in designing and fabricating tools and fixtures through close-tolerance milling, diamond turning, and wire EDM.
