Job Description
Position: Technical Director
Groove Jones, a world-renowned and award-winning studio specializing in Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Interactive Entertainment technologies, is currently seeking a person to take on the role of Technical Director.
As Technical Director, you will be responsible for designing, planning and developing, technical architecture and quality standards for our entire pipeline. You should have experience in the development of VFX pipelines for both film and real-time productions, and an excellent ability to communicate effectively with both technical and creative team members. Experience with the latest Virtual Production pipelines with Unreal Engine is a huge plus.
Duties:
- Works directly with leadership team and department leads to determine and advise technical solutions and ensure the quality of work is of the highest standards
- Provide support to artists in a variety of areas including scripting and coding tools to facilitate the CG animation process
- Design and optimize processes and tools to fit production needs
- View production systems holistically and have the ability to visualize the larger pipeline while understanding the impact of their actions
- Active engagement with artistic and technical leadership in the ongoing evolution of the production process
- Maintain and create tools using a combination of custom gizmos, scripts and libraries with the Nuke, Python, TCL, Qt, PyQt, PySide, C++ API experience a plus
- Integrate new tools into the studio’s existing pipeline.
- Write and update documentation for tools, techniques and workflows
Requirements
- At least 7+ years of experience in a computer science related field or in a technical visual effects position.
- Proven experience creating innovative and robust production pipeline development and workflow solutions
- Ready to tackle the new world of AI / Machine Learning for Computer Graphics
- Deep understanding of the VFX and/or Game production pipeline.
- Excellent Python development skills and debugging techniques.
- Strong understanding of Linux.
- Excellent knowledge of one or more of the following software: Blender, Maya, Houdini ,Nuke, Unreal Engine, Unity.
- Experience with distributed version control such as Git.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to prioritize production needs and tasks.
PREFERRED
- Experience with C ++, C# and Unreal Engine Blueprints
- Experience with SQL and / or NoSQL databases
- Experience with Asset Management Systems, Maya & Arnold is a plus
- Experience with compositing, color science, working with artists in production
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent is a plus
