General Summary/ Overview Statement


The Division of Infectious Diseases is seeking a Research Assistant to work with a nationally recognized multidisciplinary team from Massachusetts General Hospital. Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the full-time Research Assistant (RA) will work on a large, multi-year Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-funded project seeking to enhance healthcare personnel (HCP) education and workflows related to infection prevention and control (IPC) The RA will support all project activities including the conduct of literature reviews, development of decision support tools within the electronic health record, and creation of educational materials including the use of extended reality and virtual reality (XR/VR) tools. The RA will also assist in data collection, project management, and other project-related tasks. The RA will support grant reporting. The RA will be responsible for supporting manuscript preparation, submissions, and revisions.


Principal Duties And Responsibilities


The IPC RA may participate in all phases of projects, from conception and design through analysis and writing manuscripts for submission to academic journals.


Responsibilities May Include, For Example


  • Perform systematic literature reviews and synthesize relevant data
  • Analyze quantitative data
  • Code qualitative data from in-depth interviews and focus groups
  • Present results to project teams and external stakeholders
  • Partner with collaborators and program staff on oversight of projects, standard
  • operating procedure development and review, and data quality assurance
  • Help prepare grant applications and assist in reporting to support grant funded work
  • Provide administrative support as needed, including organizing meetings and preparing slides for lectures and seminars
  • Maintain an EndNote library of relevant publications
  • Contribute to the preparation of presentations, as well as preparation, revision, and submission of abstracts, posters and scientific manuscripts
  • Support coordination among key study investigators

Skills & Competencies Required


The position requires a bachelor’s degree, with an academic record demonstrating experience and skills in analytical thinking and/or quantitative methods. Candidates should also demonstrate skill in organization, time management, and both verbal and written communication.

  • Experience with data organization and analysis
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office software (particularly Excel), as well as the ability to learn new software applications

  • Excellent academic record

Additional Experience That Is Helpful But Not Required


  • Previous research experience (academic or professional)
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data (preferable but not required)


EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required.

Fiscal Responsibility


This position will be in a normal office environment. The incumbent may be required to attend meetings outside of regularly scheduled hours. There may be an opportunity for travel for offsite meetings with project partners.
