Graduate Student Program Overview-

We are looking for an exceptional
Mechanical Engineer Intern who can…
Under the supervision of one or several career senior mechanical engineers, the intern will perform basic engineer responsibilities such as to plan, conceptualize, design, document, lead design reviews, procure and test high precision opto-mechanical tooling and fixtures. May also include basic clerical duties such as electronic filing / record keeping and performing research. Must be able to organize and communicate data in written and verbal form. Must be a self-starter, resourceful and reliable, work both as a team member or independently and proactively complete assigned activities on time.
What You Will Do Is
- Work with a multi-disciplined team to deliver robust, repeatable fixturing and tooling used to manufacture high precision optics and optical assemblies.
- Use SolidWorks to design and document robust high precision opto-mechanical tooling and fixtures
- Manage multiple projects supporting manufacturing’s different areas of fabrication, cleaning, coating, and testing of optics and opto-mechanical assemblies in a high paced production environment
- Lead the entire process of tool acquisition from concept to implementation
What will you bring to the team, along with your curiosity is:
- At least one year towards an advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Enrolled in a Master’s or PhD Degree program for with expected graduation date of December 2023 or May 2024
- Experience with SolidWorks CAD software as a design and documentation tool is a preferred.
- Experience with PDMWorks vault and / or ZEMAX is a plus.
- A balance of engineering analytical skills {statics, vibration, material selection, kinematic mounting, tolerance budgets and analysis} combined with hands-on experiences is a plus.
- Familiarity with motion control, optical power generation and detection instrumentation is a plus
- Communication skills, technical writing skills, project management skills and analytical skills
- Qualified candidates should be US Persons

Compensation And Benefits
Hourly Pay Range: $27 to $49 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.
