Under the general direction of the Sr. Operations Manager of MG/NS Imaging, the Technical Manager of Major Imaging will provide immediate technical supervision to staff technologists in MR, CT, and Nuclear Medicine/PET. This position will oversee the daily workflows in each modality. In addition, this position will include: equipment and protocol management, QA assessments, ACR accreditation and facilitation, staff credentialing, and data reporting, and ongoing review of policies and procedures. Works closely with, and covers, the Technical Manager of Minor Imaging (XR, US, Mammo) as needed.


Principal Duties And Responsibilities


Human Resource Management -


Participates in new hire interviews


  • In conjunction with the modality QA managers/educator oversees:
  • New employee departmental orientation
  • Preceptor-ship of new technologists
  • Supervises technologists and educators within area(s) of oversight
  • In conjunction with the clinical director, provides corrective action (as needed)
  • Assigns work, evaluates performance and ensures on-going competency based and required training
  • Ensures proper quality and quantity of work done by unit members
  • Prepares and implements work schedules and project plans, including but not limited too;
  • Daily work assignments to ensure coverage for all hours of operations
  • Back-up / Emergency coverage schedules
  • Holiday coverage schedules
  • Oversees the approval of staff time off, ensuring adequate staffing at all times
  • Completes payroll functions
  • Performs performance evaluation of all technical and non-technical employees (as assigned)
  • Provides recognition and where appropriate disciplinary action
  • Responsible for professional development of staff


Business Development -


Functions as a liaison between physicians and internal referring department staff, to promote:


  • Patient and family satisfaction
  • Department growth
  • Referring physician satisfaction
  • Ensures that all information regarding procedural or operational changes are communicated to appropriate Department and Hospital personnel.


Operations Management -


Develops, monitors and maintains operational workflows to promote efficient and safe patient throughput


  • Develops, monitors and maintains resource scheduling templates to ensure adequate patient access
  • Perform daily rounds to proactively manage potential operational issues or address ongoing issues
  • Oversees supply management to ensure proper supply inventory and availability


Financial Management -


  • Facilitates effective cost containment practices through:
  • Monitoring volume trends
  • Capacity management (physical and human resource)
  • Supply management
  • Institutional cost savings initiatives
  • Efficient Revenue Cycle practices:
  • Monitors timely/accurate exam completion/tracking
  • Billing corrections
  • Monitors and resolves unsigned reports


Quality and Safety –


  • Ensures that all Department, Hospital, and Regulatory guidelines are met (i.e. Joint Commission, CMS, DPH, ACR and all others that may apply)
  • Ensures all department and hospital policies and procedures are adhered to by all staff
  • Participates in Collaborative Case Reviews (CCRs) as requested
  • Participates in departmental, hospital and modality committees (i.e. Contrast administration, Radiation safety, Patient experience, and others as assigned)


Technical Management –
  • Ensures proper functioning of all equipment
    • Coordinates all preventative maintenance, physicist testing, software upgrades and all other equipment related service
  • Protocol development and improvement
  • Perform daily rounds to proactively manage potential technical issues or update on ongoing issues


Analytics and Reporting –


Including But Not Limited To


  • Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Yearly exam volume
  • Daily/Weekly FTE usage and variance
  • Monthly budget variance
  • Physician referral


Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic technology, possess (or be eligible to obtain) a current Massachusetts State Radiologic Technologist license and be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent in Magnetic Resonance, Computed Tomography or Nuclear Medicine.


3-5 Years Progressive Experience As a Technologist, Required


1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred.


Associate degree required,


Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent computer skills


CPR certification


Skills/ Abilities/ Competencies Required


  • Mental/visual ability to operate complex electronic equipment and instrumentation and perform quality control procedures on equipment; must lift and transfer patients to wheelchairs, etc.
  • Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of patients of all age groups. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit
  • Advanced understanding of and skill in imaging protocols in the areas of mammography.
  • Possess a full understanding of Q&S issues and initiatives. Able to properly identify equipment, processes and patient care issues and appropriately address them
  • Keep abreast of Imaging trends via study, professional organizations and other resources
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to organize time and priorities effectively, asking for direction when appropriate
  • Excellent time management skills; ability to juggle multiple tasks and competing priorities and able to coordinate the workflow of scheduled procedures and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to be attentive to detail
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Is a team-player who is open to, and encourages feedback from, colleagues. Able to communicate technical information and policies and able to train personnel
  • Demonstrates initiative and shares best practices. Ability to problem-solve


Possess intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft, Excel, and PowerPoint and can quickly learn other information systems used within the institution
