The Disney AI Character Studio creatively applies artificial intelligence (AI) technology to produce immersive story experiences that enable a new generation of fans and guests to interact, talk, and connect with some of the most beloved characters in the world. The Studio comprises a cross-disciplinary group of designers, writers, artists, and software engineers. Its career includes developing new character interaction paradigms, producing complete character experiences, and developing and supporting a robust, scalable, cloud-based AI entertainment platform supporting real-time AI-driven applications serving millions of concurrent users.


The Studio develops mobile, VR, AR, mixed reality, consumer product, streaming media, and in-park custom physically situated applications built on a core platform, independently and in partnership with 3rd party developers. The team focuses on commercializing new AI products and services for the segment, generating revenue through new product offerings. In addition, the team is tasked with supporting and evolving these experiences as the market grows, requiring ongoing content and feature updates created by in-house and 3rd party teams led by a Live Operations group within the Studio.


The AI Business Planning & Commercialization intern will support the AI Business Planning & Commercialization Lead with developing business plans for studio operations and discrete projects. This role partners with creative storytellers, AI experts, and software developers to identify and capitalize on opportunities to integrate AI-driven character experiences into the company's offerings.


A Day in the Life


  • Develop novel business models and revenue opportunities for new interactive character products and experiences by assessing the value of these experiences.
  • Provide ideas and insights into new business models that AI could enable.
  • Support the maintenance of a roadmap of crucial AI capabilities in strategic interactive character areas that unlock value for the company.
  • Determine how technology capabilities align with product roadmaps to bring next-generation tools, technologies, and experiences to market.
  • Stay abreast of AI/ML technologies, academic research & hands-on techniques.
  • Assist with studio finances, contracts, licenses, etc.
  • Integrate usability studies, research, and market analysis into requirements to enhance guest satisfaction.
  • Define and analyze metrics that inform the success of products and experiences and develop strategic live experience enhancements focused on the guest experience.
  • Support the development of annual operating, financial, and resource plans (AOP, FYP, monthly forecasts, etc.)
  • Produce ongoing financial, risk, and development reports to status the health and progress of each project towards its goals in partnership with Finance and key WDI stakeholders.
  • Monitor and analyze industry trends and developments in AI technology to identify opportunities for innovation and growth.
  • Prepare executive presentations that represent the financial goals and strategies of the Studio.


Required Education...


  • Currently, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related strategy-based discipline is required.
  • MBA candidates are preferred.


Additional Information...


  • At the time of application, you must be enrolled in an accredited college/university,  taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program AND returning to school the semester/quarter following the internship OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship  .
  • Must be at least 18 years of age .
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program. 
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization.
  • Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are May/June - August/September 2023.
  • Interns must be fully available for the duration of a 12-week assignment.


Pay Rate:


The pay rate for this internship is $45.00 per hour.
