Job Summary

PBS Wisconsin is seeking a creative storyteller and producer to lead the design and production of innovative, interactive experiences that expand the diverse stories of Wisconsin communities onto emerging digital platforms.

The role will produce impactful, narrative experiences across a wide range of technologies including, but not limited to mobile, web, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality.

The Interactive Media Producer will lead the production of immersive digital experiences through the entire design cycle of research, concept development and ideation, prototyping, playtesting, and implementation.

The successful candidate will bring a unique perspective and voice to PBS Wisconsin, and an eagerness to learn from and with the diverse cultures and communities across the state.

The position is a full-time, two-year project hire with the potential to become permanent, pending funding.

Responsibilities: Directs, develops, and/or produces broadcast and/or digital content and production materials in one or more areas for programming. Directs, develops, and coordinates production strategy and process, that may include staff, creative, financial, technological, and administrative components to increase audience engagement.
  • 30% Directs, researches, and develops production strategy and/or creative and editorial processes and content for one or more programs across broadcast and digital platforms
  • 20% Directs and schedules the work of staff for production, development, and editing of content which may include identifying topics, themes, and/or guests, conducting pre-interviews or interviews, writing, and/or integrating content for multimedia platforms
  • 5% Develops and maintains reports of content evaluation and metrics for stakeholders
  • 20% May serve as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders. Collaborates with other content creators in pre- to post-production processes
  • 5% Maintains familiarity with studio equipment and/or applicable technology for production
  • 8% Leads the ideation, design & implementation of interaction & game mechanics on projects, translates research into interactive experience concepts & narratives, provides feedback & input on research, concept design, scripts, artwork, & sound design
  • 7% Manages iterative prototyping & playtesting processes for interactive projects including recruitment, planning, testing, & analyzing information, ideates & identifies opportunities for enhancements based on results & communicates with partners
  • 5% Explores innovations and stays up to date on emerging technologies

Field of Interactive Design, Design Innovation, New Media, Game Design, Human-Computer Interaction or related field preferred

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of interactive design and production experience, including experience creating immersive, narrative experiences through various technology platforms such as web, mobile, 360 videos, Virtual Reality and/or Augmented Reality.
  • Minimum 2 years experience managing complex projects with multiple partners and deadlines.
  • Demonstrates strong skills combining creative storytelling with interactive design expertise. Shows experience balancing compelling narrative development with intuitive interface design, language, visual communication, and engaging game mechanics.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with human-centered Design Thinking philosophy, including a flexible, empathetic approach to ideation and the iterative experience development process.
  • Experience with low and high-fidelity prototyping processes and hands-on experience with the process of planning, designing, conducting, and analyzing playtests.
  • Experience working collaboratively with external partners and in a participatory, team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as excellent verbal and visual communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Demonstrates experience with game design principles and is well-versed in game mechanics.
  • Experience with a variety of interactive design and prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Origami, Unity, Unreal Engine, ARKit, SparkAR, etc)
  • Understands and can write simple code (e.g. HTML, Javascript, Python, etc) for prototyping interactions across different digital platforms.
  • Experience with physical computing and ability to prototype with hardware (e.g. Arduino, basic electronics, sensors and actuators, 3D printing, etc)
  • Experience conducting research and translating concepts into narrative scripts.
  • Familiar with accessibility guidelines and best practices for digital experiences.

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Appointment Type, Duration

Terminal, 24 month appointment.

This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.

Salary

Minimum $53,700 ANNUAL (12 months)

Depending On Qualifications

We expect to pay in the mid-$50K's - mid-$60K's for this role. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
