Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Digital Cockpit Technologies Department in Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering organization is responsible for technology and algorithm innovations that transform experiences and delight our customers. We thrive at the intersection of advanced sensors, machine learning, computer vision and rich, customer focused experiences.

We are seeking a self-driven and creative individual to join Ford’s Research and Advanced engineering team; someone who is interested in the art of the possible in creating smarter vehicles for a smart world. These future vehicles will need a wide range of computing capabilities in areas such as connectivity, machine learning, and sensor/image fusion. This role will task an individual with delivering innovative Augmented Reality experiences on our in-vehicle research platform. In this role you will have the flexibility and the ability to solve problems independently, while collaborating with a functionally diverse team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

What you’ll be able to do

  • Prototype augmented reality experiences that raise driver awareness and intuition about the world around them – and (crucially) the algorithms and data fusion that enable these experiences
  • Feed the production pipeline as solutions mature, collaborating with hardware and software teams to get new and better features into the hands of customers
  • Work with cutting edge technology and state-of-the-art sensors
  • Influence the strategic roadmap
  • Work with some of the top talent in the industry spanning cross-functional teams: R&A (us), User Experience (UX/HMI), Safety (ADAS), production software, multiple hardware teams and vehicle programs

QUALIFICATIONS

The Minimum requirements we seek

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ year’s experience in augmented reality solutions (specifically with pose and/or localization, data sensor fusion, computer vision, calibration)
  • 4+ year’s experience architecting data structures and algorithms tailored to unique augmented reality constraints in-vehicle (automotive experience not required)
  • 5+ year’s experience object-oriented programming knowledge in modern C++ to solve complex algorithms (exposure to Qt or Android development a plus)

Our Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related engineering degree
  • Comfortable leveraging Python to quickly narrow problem domains to specific solutions and gain insights
  • Domain knowledge in Advance Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensors/data/algorithms
  • Software development experience working in an embedded/mobile environment
  • Experience with 3D graphics/animations
  • Experience with multimedia codec frameworks such as G-streamer, FFMpeg, etc.
  • Hands on experience with computer vision frameworks such as OpenCV, FastCV, PIL
  • Knowledge of machine learning frameworks (OpenVX)
  • Demonstrable relevant code in a GitHub repo

What you will receive in return:

As part of the Ford family, you will enjoy excellent compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that includes generous PTO, retirement, savings and stock investment plans, incentive compensation and much more.
