Avatar Dimension is a groundbreaking mixed reality studio in the Washington DC area. We’re a dynamic company with a passion for new and cutting-edge technologies. We specialize in making high-end volumetric video content for mixed reality applications and experiences. Our clients span from the Department of Defense to corporate to Hollywood.
We are seeking a like-minded Capture Stage Director that can effectively operate and maintain our 70-camera volumetric video studio and supporting IT infrastructure. Our staff is small, so you'll be expected to be flexible and self-directed, to innovate and wear multiple hats, be able to multitask, and show initiative and leadership. You’ll need excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work well under pressure.
The ability to easily get to our studio in Ashburn is essential. Also, the studio itself is mobile, so occasional long-distance travel shoots should be expected.
Responsibilities
- Develop an in-depth working knowledge of the volumetric capture stage production technology and the proprietary processing pipeline.
- Coordinate closely with the team, clients and other partner stages to ensure best practices and learnings are understood and followed.
- Prepare stage and capture systems for real-time on-set capture and oversee day-to-day volumetric capture system setup, calibration, and operation during sessions with clients as well as internal projects.
- Manage and coordinate production requirements, enhance/improve the volumetric capture system, and provide input into future development and expansion opportunities.
- Collaborate with Head of Production to create estimated costs for location capture and on-stage production work.
- Develop and implement a maintenance schedule for all stage systems, software, and equipment, implementing vital steps to assure operational safety and integrity.
- Through collaboration with internal development teams and external hardware and software vendors, maintain/upgrade the capture system and resolve issues as they arise.
- Plan and execute strategies for production automation and workflow; look for opportunities to improve upon the efficiency and/or creative impact of processes.
- Administer and maintain all computers on premises, high-capacity 120-disk RAID.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of experience with volumetric capture, video engineering, motion capture, virtual and mixed reality production, and/or live action film production.
- Experience with on-set digital acquisition, motion capture and/or on-set virtual production technology.
- A strong background and understanding of imaging electronics, imaging systems and proper integration of all components, including camera, software, cabling, and setup resulting in optimal system performance.
- Experience with the fundamentals of cinematography/lighting and sound recording.
- Experience with timecode/synchronization of multi-camera arrays, especially in volumetric capture applications.
- Experience with PC IT support (hardware, networking, debugging, etc.) and A/V systems, standards/formats, and cabling (copper and fiber).
- Experience with administering and maintaining a high-capacity RAID.
- Experience with virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR).
Required Skills
- Must be highly computer literate with Windows.
- Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages and development.
- Knowledge of 3D graphics and modelling, familiar with 3D modelling software (Maya, Houdini, etc).
- Familiar with game engines (Unity/Unreal).
- Familiar with web/mobile development.
- Must be an excellent troubleshooter to diagnose and solve issues in complex integrated systems of computers, video recording systems, software, and other sensor driven systems.
- Familiar with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures used in visual effects, XR, and live-action film production.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
- Able to comfortably manage multiple tasks, communicate status, escalate issues and juggle competing priorities.
- Able to lift heavy items and work on high ladders.
Bonus Skills
- Experienced with game engines (Unity/Unreal).
